^^Well, it was worth my while sending this faulty HX620 PSU back, even at £30 for postage. Corsair sent me a brand new HX750 as a replacement.

Yeah, definitely! It's now in the classified section if anyone wants it, as I had to buy another PSU while I was waiting for that to be sorted and I got a Seasonic X-760, so the HX750 is now surplus to requirements.

I've got a 670 Power Edition coming hopefully within the next 1 hour. Depending on how quiet it is I might order another one today.

I did originally have 2 670 Windforces in SLI but got rid of it and got a 7970 Lightning for bitcoing but was getting crashes and was artifacting in some games.

I'm planning on selling my 560ti and upgrading to a 670 but I'm not sure which card I should go for. There seems to be a lot of choice among the 670 cards.

Is there going to be a big difference in performance between something like the Gigabyte 670 Windforce and a sub £300 670?

Get either the evga ftw or the windforce, if you want to spend less then stock evga, the dearer ones are clocked higher so there will be a difference and their pcb and cooling is the same as the 680's so they'll run much much cooler, that and some have the 680 vrm's so will oc better

Oi !! Or the Msi Power Edition

To be honest with the 660Ti release due any time now I would wait and see how it compares to the 670 ! From the couple of half reviews posted (They have the cards but can't post all the details yet) it sounds like the 660 is a beast

Thanks Chox and Bigbud. I like EVGA and MSI cards so I'll bear them in mind. I didn't realise the 660 was so close to being released. I suppose it makes sense to wait and see how it compares to the 670, plus I guess it'll retail for about £200+ rather than £300+ for the OC 670s.

Edit - Will look into it but I'm wondering if the initial release of the 660s will just be stock cards with reference coolers and the like rather than custom cards from the big companies.

There were boat loads of 670 OC'd cards on release, I'm sure we'll see a 660 Thread from OC'ers on release

This, stock could be a pain but there will be non standard versions on release day, there were tons of the 670 though like bigbud says so likely will be fine

I got mine yesterday. Impressive. Very quiet and cool card. Ordered another. Not bad considering it's only £304 on scan's (boo hiss) deals of the day.

Ordered the EVGA 670 FTW for £321 on the basis that the 660ti will probably retail for about £250 and I'd have to wait until the middle or end of this month to get it.

After doing some extensive reading on which card to get I went with the EVGA as they have a very good customer service reputation and the card also exhausts out the rear of the case, whereas the Gigabyte dumps its heat into the case. I also like the look of the EVGA card with its black PCB.

Can't wait to see how it handles games like Crysis 2 at maximum settings, as well as my racing games like F1 2011 and Shift 2. Hoping Anno will get a good FPS boost too.

Will run it at stock to see how it copes. If it averages something like 40fps in games in Crysis 2 then I'd give overclocking a go, but I'm expecting it to be plenty fast at stock speeds.

Need to sell my Asus 560ti top version now. Probably get about £100 for it I imagine. When I factored that into purchasing the 670 then it just made more sense and was more attractive than the 660ti as it'll end up costing me £221 or thereabouts. I am quite fortunate to be able to afford it given the state of the economy just now. Only reason I have the extra cash is because my mum passed away in May and I'm using some of the money she left me in her will to treat myself to something nice. Thanks mum!

Did the same as you but sold a GTX 580 to fund a MSI TF4 (OC), happy with it now but I had a few problems at first cos its new Tech ! Hopefully you wont come across the issues ?

I would like another but one will do for now, even with 1440p ! Will wait for the price to fall as they have lost some value already I see ?

I installed Crysis last night to see how it would fair with the Cry engine (as its a system eater back in the day) & it looks SO smooth & quite breath taking in some scenes !

Thanks Andi and Pinky. Just installed it and I'm sure webpages are loading much quicker now than before with the 560ti. I don't know why I didn't think a more powerful GPU would have this influence over browsers and webpages.

Going to try it with some games later on. Andi, Crysis is still a great game, as is Warhead. When I cranked the settings in Warhead up towards the max the 560ti didn't like that at all - slowdowns, stuttering, etc.

I also prefer the feel of the EVGA card over the Asus one. It's easier to handle and feels more solid than the 560ti.

After having my Gigabyte 670 for a few weeks now, I'd give it two thumbs up. I'm only running a 1,680 x 1,050 monitor at the moment (that's the next thing I'm upgrading), but every game I've tried has run smoothly with the graphics settings maxed out. I had a few stuttering issues with the stock NVIDIA drivers, but updating to the beta drivers fixed that and performance is absolutely spot on now. It's really quiet too - when I'm not gaming, I can't hear it at all. In games the fans ramp up a little, but it's just a quiet rush of air that you won't hear over the sound of the game.

I've been saying it for a while but I think I'm finally about to press the button on another 670.

The EVGA FTW was looking like a contender but I'm not sold on it due to a couple of things. Doesn't seem that quiet and whilst it dumps air out of the case (which is a big positive) the load temps don't look that amazing which makes me think that throttling could be an issue (which happens @ 70c I think?).

Whilst I could go WF again I'd say I'm leaning towards the MSI Power Edition as I was really pleased with my Twin Frozr 570 so am a big fan of their coolers, and overall it seems a bit more solidly built. Downsides are that I'll probably need to order from everyone's favourite retailer as they're the only place I can find one in stock apart from Novatech, but they're asking nearly £50 more.

I know that those of you who've bought the MSI generally seem pretty happy but I'd really appreciate some first hand impressions with regards to noise under load (esp. if you've OC'd), an idea of what sort of idle / load temps you've been getting and if you have any niggles with the card at all, even if they're minor.

Cheers

Just did a couple of runs on unigine with 2 Power Editions in SLI, fans set at auto, both GPU's at 99% usage, both at stock:

GPU1: fan speed at 49 couldn't hear it. Max temp 67C
GPU2: fan speed at 44 couldn't hear it. Max temp 59C

I've only heard the fans kick in at start up where they go in reverse until Windows loads up.

Nice cards, when I was using just 1, my temps weren't going any higher than 57C. I might add the VGA duct and a fan to lower the heat. My first GPU is a little too hot for me.

Cheers hopeless - that's really helpful thanks!

It's esp. good to hear your thoughts on the fan noise as this is a bit of a bugbear of mine, particularly when the fans have an annoying pitch to them. Your single GPU temps are great but even your top card in SLI is very decent. Quite a few 670s don't sit below 67c in a single card set up, so you're well within acceptable limits....although no harm in cooling it further of course

what psu are you running with the cards in sli?

It would be nice to see some stock and overclocked benches of all these different brand 670 cards members have.

MSI power ed here, my res is 2560x1440 so my card has to work harder.

BF3 - setting @ med-high, no vsync, no AA, AO SSAO - FPS lowest 68.

Idle temp - 36c
temp @ load - 69c
Max @ load -1189mhz
Memory @ load 1.6GB

Don't hear it with headphone's on, to me the fans are loud past 60-70% but this is the same for all cards. You can set a fan profile in MSI afterburner, its very useful as you can set increase at different points so you won't hear it !

The only thing that's annoying for me is the start up when the fans spin 100% in reverse to clear dust, I don't need this in my case & would like to turn it off but can't as its set in the gpu bios (You'll have to flash it with another bios to remove it).

Overall I'm happy with it & the price is at a good point compared to other Gpu with custom coolers.

Hope it helps, any other info I can give let us know ?

That's excellent - thanks Andi!

The 7970 I have just now tends to hit 53% fan speed at load (max temp at load 61c) on the auto profile and whilst audible the fan noise isn't all that intrusive. It'd probably run near enough silent if I set up a manual profile to let the fans run slower at the expense of a bit more heat. That said even at full load the fans from my Son's 360 at the other end of the room drown it out

I'm pretty sure if it went upwards of the 60-70% mark it'd be time to put on the headphones though!

I'm using a Corsair AX850. 3dmark and unigine at stock GPU settings. I'll try to get some overclocked results another time. But I have seen people pulling near 100fps on heaven, so I've got some way to go.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2500K Processor,ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 score: P13671 3DMarks

Think my 2500k at 4.4ghz might be holding me back a little.

edit: tried uploading directly to avforums but was getting an invalid file error, so apologises for the screenshot as it is.

Thanks, I've been thinking about this. If I am to SLI 2X670's then they will cost around £650 (£315 each for a Gigabyte or MSI) but I've seen the GTX690 as low as £750 with 4Gb VRAM so maybe for future proofing this will be a better buy.

I need to get a PSU capable of running either cards too.

Maybe I'm getting carried away and should stick with what I have and wait until the next gen stuff is out as I only have a 1080p monitor anyway. lol

The 4GB of ram on a 690 is still split into 2GB for each chip I believe?
