The same princple applies with regards to my opinions on vram, you can fit full length cards in htpcs obviously depending on the case.

Although it depends what the users priorities are, some want small quiet cards in a htpc. So I wouldn't recommend a card as hot and loud as the 480 was for example.

To be honest someone wanting a very powerful htpc would likely buy a case that would accommodate a large graphics card anyway.

True.

N.B
The Palit card is a beauty, I love the Chinese calligraphy against the gold.

I want one

Unfortunately I'd need to sell my GTX 580 for around £200 and then come up with another £140. Not easy when we've just bought a house and are paying for improvements etc.

Is there enough of an improvement over a 580 to warrant the extra money though?

Looks like the 4gb cards will be £400, thats a really good price . Two of those in sli is a serious contender to a 690.

But then the 2gb range right up to £370 , way overpriced.

Love the look of the cooler on the kfa2 670.

@brembo that pyramid is insane.

Yeah I just want to push it over for some reason

Well the evga 4gb 670 is £420.

I'd rather get a 2gb 680.

Agreed.

Disregarding the 690 altogether, If i wanted a 4 gig card i'd get the 670 but if i wanted a 2gig i'd get the 680. The 4 gig 680 needs to come down to 500 to 550 before the pricing structure makes any sense to me.

Id rather get the 680 over 4gb 670. The thing is, most people are on 1080p and can anybody tell me how many games use more than 2gb.
Plus, with most games still being ports I cant really see this changing in the near future.

Exactly, and you'd notice more performance improvements with a faster card.

I think the obsession with vram is crazy at the moment.

As an example, Alan Wake HAMMERS my card at 99% usage, but the vram usage is only 950MB or something.

I think a big contributor to that is a fully patched and modded skyrim can use over 2gb, and it was played by so many that wanted the extra vram.

I dont think thats a good example, somethings not right with how hard this game beats down gpu's, something with the optimization maybe. But i get where youre coming from

Wow, those 670s hit some crazy clocks....

What interests me is this -
Long PCB - GTX 680 PCB Design - Approx 1400MHz max aircooled core clock
Asus GTX 670 DirectCU2 (2x 6pin power)
Gigabyte GTX 670 WindForce 3X (8+6pin power)
KFA2 GTX 670 EX OC (8+6pin power)

The ASUS has 2x6pin, whilst the other 2 'long' PCBs both require 8+6?

Why does the ASUS require less power, is the cooler more efficient?

EDIT:
Speaking from experience, the DirectCUII is an utter beast of a cooler, especially when coupled with some fresh TIM!

My wallet.. IT ITCHES!

Just read sli review and have to say seriously thinking of changing my pre order of EVGA 4gb 680 to sli EVGA 4gb 670. It would only cost £200 more and would save me £400 if I was t get second 680. Lots of thinking to do lol

Hexus review is up. They throw a nice carrot at the end by wondering if the 670 can be bios flashed to a 680...
