Finished installing about to Launch and die....

I just killed a boar out in the wilds with my rifle and managed to gut it with the hunting knife I found but have't yet worked out how to cook it lol.

Gonna have a break for lunch and spend a few hours this afternoon playing some more.


Is there an ultimate objective? other than surviving?

I'm enjoying exploring, but, wonder if there are any deeper things to be doing like trying to find a car etc....

You have to have both arma 2 and OA fully patched and OA patched with the beta. Use six launcher to download dayz and install and browse for servers to join and you should be good to go.

Took me about 3 hrs last night to finally get it working lol.

Is the world persistant. I know you respawn at the same place if you take a break, but, if I do not play for a few days will my character have died in the meantime due to lack of food etc...?

Loving the atmosphere of this game and I now realise other people are best to stear clear off as they tend to be in survivalist mode and take you out of the equation.

It would be nice to get a group of us on ts and meet up on a server.

That rifle will get you killed mate, loud as fook try n swop it out it's even louder than shottys

When you come back on your food and drink meters will be flashing so make sure you have some food and drink in your inventory if you are planning on not being on for a while.

you need matches and wood to make a fire, I haven't played for a few days but to get wood you normally rick click on the hatchet icon (when its in your tool belt) and click harvest wood (you need to be near a tree)

There are numerous vehicles (cars, buses, motorbikes, push bikes...) but they do make you a target so use them at your peril.


For new guys the hardest thing is navigating the map (especially if you are trying to meet up with someone). Make sure you take note of where you spawn, the location you are in pops up in the bottom corner but only stays for a second or two.

Find a decent online map as in game maps have been made rarer.

Use the sign posts outside the towns/villages to figure out where you are (you'll need to a map which shows both the Russian and English names).

If you don't have a compass but are playing on the same server as someone you are talking to then get them to tell you which way there shadow is pointing.

If you don't have a compass be careful straying too far from landmarks (roads, towns ect..) if you don't want to get lost (it's very easy to end up going in a circle)

If you spawn in the SW of the map it's worth going for the airfield near balota, it's a bit of a death trap but if you've got nothing to loose you night pick up some decent weapons.

Zombies can only walk on certain surfaces (inside houses, bridges, docks) use this to give yourself a bit of space if you're getting mobbed.

i was watching a few videos earlier on youtube and this squad was going round raping everybody, they all had high powered sniper rifles and assault rifles!

the best loot seems to be in helicopters that have been downed, all sorts of high value stuff in there!

Its good mate but possibly the hardest game on the planet... lol

Its impossible to find anything good and getting to places without dying is also near impossible

If their were vehicles about it would be a huge help but i cant find jack all... just empty places and a tonne of zombies
