Yeah I checked the DayZ website and looked through the info and I jumped the gun I work in software and can fully admit to not RTFM on this one

Its my Birthday tomorrow, so sod it, I paid a couple of euros more than if I purchased the Combined Ops from Bohemia, but I got Arma II as well. So I will be able to try this out! Looking forward to it.

Just download Worrom's updater, once you have installed Arma 2 Combined Ops it will download and extract everything you need, then hit play.

Not hard! lol.

Patch 1.7.1 will introduce some much needed changes also.

If any of you guys are struggling getting it set up/figuring out what your doing just let me know and I'll help out, it's quite a steep learning curve if you haven't played arma before.

The dayz forum is good but there's not alot of talk about the basics (how to eat ect..) so make sure you have a quick scan over the dayz wiki.

The tutorial in arma CO is worth doing as it shows you the basic stuff (how to turn your head independently of your body, select weapons ect..)

Don't let me put you off there's just more to it than most FPS and some of the menus can be a bit confusing the first time you look at them.

I you get stuck let me know and I'll talk you through it on a TS server.

Well, no, it's not rocket science - suggests your PSU isn't up to scratch!

What PSU was/is it and what warranty does it have? What are your other PC specs?

Some games can put higher stress on gpu's and hence psu's though. Which reminds me I need to stick a thermal probe in my PSU and I'm still waiting for the game to come up in the Steam Sale just to play DayZ

Not sure to be honest, got the PSU replaced, so will give it another go...

Take a screenshot and post if you can

Hope we didn't sound obtuse; overheating might have been any number of things, not just the PSU. The Windows Experience should detail your components (GPU, CPU etc), but not the PSU.

Is your system custom built, or off-the-shelf?

Kinda custom built, bought a few years back but gradually every part has died and been replaced...

Has ran Crysis at high settings before, just need to learn how to tweak my settings to avoid overheating perhaps, unsure where to find the details but will have a good look...

No one came across badly

Right click my computer and see what it says with respect to Processor, RAM, Windows version etc Unless you've got an original spec sheet and details of what was replaced? It's hard to advise without knowing more detail

Can anyone recommend any decent servers, I can't play til 8-9pm usually so I'd rather find one that is GMT minus a few hours (...yes im a wimp in the dark)

Loving the game though, the concept is brilliant.

Rename, as JM says.

Join a game? Well, the servers are "real-time". To play in daylight, you need to find a server where it is still daylight. If you play at 11pm UK time on a UK server, it will be dark! So 11pm UK time, try a US server, where it is 4-6 hours behind depending on the coast you choose.

Type to other users? You mean team chat, right? Someone can advise you, as I don't have the game.

Do you know what graphics card you have?

Try filtering for Uganda, it's based in the EU and the guy's set it to -6 or -7 hours GMT so it's light till late.

Stay away from the North East though that's my killing ground

If you are struggling you need to find someone who'll team up as most servers chat has been disabled (apart from group which means you are only broadcasting to people near to you). If you look on the dayz forum there's a survivor section will loads of people looking to meet up.

Well, it blew my power supply again, guy in the shop says its a fuse inside the PSU that keeps blowing, the PSU is 650, so he thinks it might not be good enough for the high strain...

Infact if someone could point out a really great, fairly priced PSU from here thatd be awesome...

http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Componen...Power-Supplies

Played it for 10mins, visuals looked gorgeous, didn't change any settings. The atmosphere grabbed me straight away, so tense knowing something could be wandering nearby ready to tear you apart...

By "type to others" i mean how do i bring up the text box etc, as i dont yet have a mic (buying one soon)

My graphics card is this;

Quote:
Sapphire HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort HDCP PCI-E Graphics Card
Thanks for the help guys, i'm a bit new to this (console gamer for 25 years), but hopefully can get it up and running and enjoy the occasional game session (possibly with AVF'ers)

Theoretically a 650w psu should be ample; but obviously some psu's are better than others. What make/model is it?

Default text chat button is / use the arrows next to it < > to change channel (you don't need to hold shift just press the key), the only channel that should work is the group one (green) but you will only be broadcasting to people near you (thinks it's a few hundred meters)

I've only got a 650w PSU with a 460 1mb GPU

I recently moved over to PC gaming mainly to play ARMA and it was well worth the cost so stick with it.

I've got ARMA 2 and Arrowhead, I take it I can just grab the Day-Z files and I'm set?

Also I don't have a microphone, is it even worth playing without a mic?
