He means average joe that walks into PC World. They are still buying a built PC its just that its HP or Dell or whoever that have mass produced and bulk bought chips and parts for their units. It means that bulldozer still finds its way to the end user.

I'll put my house on it that there are a hell of a lot of people who build their own pc and do little research into what they're buying and fall for the advertising fluff. They will see 6 cores and think whoahh thats powerful.

Building a pc is a doddle and anyone can do it taking their time. It's not for enthusiasts.

If you don't think this is true then go and stand in overclockers.co.uk's showroom and listen to those coming in buying components. I've corrected a fair few people from making silly purchases all because it sounded good and they had done little homework.

LOL serious? anyone who is building a pc especially first time i would imagine would do some research instead of picking components based on how large the number is on the title of a product?

You would imagine that yes and there will be people who will read countless forums and get all the right info.

There will also be a lot who will see AMD Bulldozer 6 cores and think it's going to be better than i7 4 cores.

Anyone not doing proper research is surely more likely to go with the cheapest components no!?

Look at it this way if you are building a decent pc it doesn't mean you know everything or have researched everything. I imagine a lot don't look at benchmarks etc...

Now tell me which of these sounds better and as someone with basic knowledge which would you go for?

AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8150 Black Edition 3.60Ghz = £240.00

Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor = £280

They will likely heard of cores and will naturally think the 8 core black edition is going to be better and it's cheaper.

Yes it sounds stupid that people would do it but there is a lot that do, as i say some of the times ive been sat at overclockers and listened to the rubbish spouted is unbelievable.

For my money I would say the good sales have been off the back of large system builders doing bulk deals for the chips. Its their customers that will have the PC World salesmen touting 8 cores and being seduced by it. The number of small/personal system builders not doing research would be negligible compared to the large system builder/reseller market.

If nothing else the hype machine is working. The info on those slides is so impressive if true. Good on AMD if its true.

All those slides are just meaningless guff until they show what the actual framerate increase is. A faster tessellation fill rate might not equate to many extra frames per second at all.

70% better of not a lot, is still not a lot.

I don't know what you mean bud, it's just a graph about tessellation performance. I don't see FPS mentioned anywhere, or by anyone. They're just marketing slides. All they do is tell us a few details about the hardware.

What do you mean by not a lot? Not a lot of what?

Those charts and graphs mean nothing. Especially this:

What do those 'Next Generation Performance' bars stand for? FPS, temperature, power draw??

An FPS counter in the corner is what we're after! I'll believe 50-100% improvement on our currently cycle of hardware when I see it - That goes for AMD and nVidia in this case

A 50% increase should not be difficult to achieve, fingers crossed for about 70%.

Why 500? The 480 when released was around 400 tops

I paid £460 and £455 for my gtx480's. One was on release and the other a two months after.

I read somewhere that prices will drop on these new AMD cards in February once stock levels improve which sounds believable. Over £500 for a single gpu card is a fair chunk of cash and AMD/ATI have always been fairly competitive on their prices.

I don't know why you want a new one anyway. The GTX580 will still tear games to shreds, for years, for that matter!

But if you're running 3D you need 120fps to then get 60fps in each eye. Same applies if you have three screens for eyefinity or nvidia surround. You need the fastest most powerful card you can get and not everyone wants to run SLI or crossfire.

Can you do 3d gaming on these cards? I haven't seen any info on 3D and the 7000.
