And on the notes of 'Skyrim' and 'Macho' - Skyrim HD 1.3 is out!

The jump from 1.2->1.3 is 300MB! That's a lot of textures! It looks like some of the furniture, blacksmithing, buildings & landscape(s) have been replaced - So it will over write some of the 'dedicated' mods to that category.

I'll try out the Skyrim HD 1.3 furniture and compare it against the 'HD Furniture & Barrels' mod!

I thought that was a photograph for a split second there!

Just gone up to level 3 and have recovered the golden claw, but can't return it to Lucius Valerius for some reason.

You mean you cant pick it up? If so I had bug where all I had to do was exit the dungeon then enter it again and it fell to the floor, then I could pick it up.

I updated to 1.3 HD textures as well last night - I think I may remove some of the other mods that effect textures such as barrels which I also have installed and see how it is, but these texture mods make all the difference....it really is night and day from the original game.

Sadly, one of my updates has broken my Nexus mod manager - every time I start the game now, it loads my save and right before it enters the game, it CTD. However, running the SKSE exe file seems to work ok...

More experimenting I think.

Think I may cull some of the mods in my game, also need to update my Google Spreadsheet as new versions have been released over the last 3 days. Unfortunately busy with coursework. Damn staff development!

Played with the new SkyUI last night, this gets my vote for Mod Of The Year. Fantastic! If you're starting off, then add the "value/weight ratio" column as it's incredibly useful when you're looking to throw stuff away when you're overburdened. The instructions on how to do this are at the bottom of the mod page at Skyrim Nexus.

Only running a couple of other mods (apart from Skyboost) - the "map with roads" and "no more blocky faces". Don't want to kill my setup with high-res textures, to be honest it all looks excellent anyway.

Nope, it's in my inventory, but when I return to Riverwood I can't give it to him to get my gold. Bit odd.

Have you tried giving it to the woman in the shop? Camilla, I think her name is.

Otherwise, could be this problem.

The easiest way would be to use the console to complete that stage of the quest.

I don't have the console or the commands to hand, so this time, I can only point you in the direction! [Sorry for the lack of being awesome today ]

EDIT:
I've had a coffee, or two, and I'm back on top!

Here's the command you need to enter in the console to complete that quest:
SetStage MS13 100

If you don't receive any form of reward, since you didn't actually speak to the NPC, then reward yourself!

Type this in the console:
player.additem f 100

What that command does is this:
Player.Additem Gold 100

[And no, it doesn't disable achievements]

So, for the above, here's how I got there->

Here's the data required: Skyrim:The Golden Claw - UESPWiki

Here's the code explanation:
Code:
SetStage <quest id> <stage value>Edit
Used to set the quest stage (Useful for bugged quests). Use command ShowQuestTargets for quest IDs and player.sqs to show how many stages are there (note that you have set the stage one at a time in order to get its effect.)
[The entire list of commands is here]

Enjoy!

Note:
You've overcame three obstacles here:

1) You completed 'The Golden Claw'
2) You learned how to manipulate the game via the console.
3) You defeated one of Bethsoft's many bugs!

So when you press Talk to you don't see the options for dialogue that completes the quest. As the giving of the claw and any quest item is automatic when you speak to the person involved.

Correct, just the same options I had when I first spoke to him.

Yeah, the map mod with roads has been really helpful. Great little mod.

I've been avoiding SkyUI as I read it initially had some teething problems but I think I'll take the plunge now. Have you tried the favorite menu mod that categorizes your list? Looks fantastic. I use the favorite menu all the time as I have it hot keyed to my mouse via the keyboard.

I've also chosen not to install any major HD retexture packs as I'm happy with my fps and how the game looks. I did, however, install these two mods that really improved ingame graphics without any noticeable fps hit...

Lush Grass mod

Lush Grass at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community

Enhanced Distant Terrain

Enhanced Distant Terrain at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community

This one is especially useful if you've tried the ugrids mod and it has reduced your fps to an unacceptable level.

I installed the Enhanced Distant Terrain mod last night and it makes a big difference without killing my fps. The same author made both the mods above. He also made a Lush Trees mod but I tried it and it made the game sluggish at certain points.

Has anyone tried this rock texture pack?

Improved rock and mountain textures - 4096x and 2048x at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community

The rock textures is something I'd like to improve without killing fps. Will try this one out and see how it goes.

interested to hear from anyone who upgrades the textures HD to 1.3 and whether it makes a big difference. I have 1.2 installed already and looks good. Not sure what files overwrite each other when you have real water textures and some of the flora and armour mods too.

Anyway, I am happy with looks/performance at the moment, but I guess the modding is becoming as addictive as the game itself. The quest to get the game looking ever so slightly better drives me on

Interested to hear peoples 'order' on mods who have loads of texture mods - I thin kI need to resort mine as I have uninstalled and reinstalled or updated them.

Btw Stockholm, what kind of graphics card are you running?

If you have 2GB of VRAM, you could get away with Skyrim HD 1.3 easily

The two I can remember off of the top of my head are:
  • If you have the Improved NPC Clothing mod, it replaces the barman/barwoman clothing [About 6 textures].
  • If you have the HD Furniture And Barrels mod it replaces the furniture textures [About 5 textures]

There were maybe a couple more, but being a good few miles away from my rig - It's hard to ask her.

On the first install of SHD 1.3, I did a 'test' run to see which textures it would replace. I bypassed (Pressed 'No') to replace the mods above. But after the installation, the box wasn't ticked. Just to make sure, I installed it again, and this time, to make sure it was activated, I just pressed 'Yes To All'; assuming it only wanted to replace those two texture packs.

I've not noticed much/any difference in performance (or to the furniture, as I'm not that anal about my chairs + cupboard, but just as long as they don't make my eyes bleed when I look at them!). It runs solid, but looks superb.
I'm sure the chairs + furniture mod replaces more than what Skyrim HD 1.3 does, but I'll double check that before I spout that fact.

So for now, install both the furniture + Skyrim HD 1.3 just to make sure you've got your entire house covered in 2048 or 4096 textures!
I haven't played a lot with Skyrim HD 1.3 - But what I can tell you is... WOW - It's a total eye-candy fest (even more now!)

EDIT

I'm in two minds here:

1) Use Skyrim HD and keep re-installing the 'Specialist' mods over the top.
2) Just use Skyrim HD and let it destroy everything in it's path.

The bloke who does Skyrim HD has been doing an utterly stellar job of re-texturing the entire game, although, I don't know if his textures are better than the 'specialist' mods..

E.G.
If he replaced the road signs, would it be as 'sharp' as the mod that is already released?

The same applies to the 'Furniture & Barrels' mod.

I'll double check it all tonight, but for now, Skyrim HD has the reigns and I'll re-instate the other mods once I've taken some screenshots for comparison.

Either way, any 'HD' mod will be better than Vanilla, it's going to be a Win-Win either way!

I have a few, I installed Skyrim HD first, then all the specialist packs like clothing, armour, water signs etc

Works fine for me and still get about 45 - 50fps

Cheers for the info, will have a look at those other mods asap.

Yes, SkyUI is top-notch now. I've been holding off on the "favourite menu mod" as that's what the SkyUI team are looking at now. Shouldn't be long.

One thing: you don't necessarily need SKSE for SkyUI. Yes, it complains it's missing but if you don't use the search box (I use a 360 controller) then it's not needed for all the other functionality. If you object to running a different .exe then this might be useful.

Is anyone playing this on a Macbook Pro in Bootcamp? Just got the game installed but not played it yet (it is a back up option for when my Mrs wants to hog the main TV as my main play through is on PS3). I was wondering if installing mods would cripple the performance, although I was quite surprised it defaulted to medium settings on my 2010 Macbook Pro.

Interesting.. What model do you have?

Apple MacBook Pro: 2010 vs 2011 models compared spec-by-spec

If you have the 320M, that's roughly an AMD HD 5770.. (In my world anyway)

It's the 2.4 C2D 4GB ram 320M. Like I say, I haven't run it yet so I can't say what the actual performance is like but fairly pleased and surprised it defaulted to medium.

Read this post [Here] and only take note of the parts that say:

SkyBoost
MSAA
FXAA

It will increase the performance somewhat

I recently changed to one of these (I think there are a few based on ENBSeries) and will post again when I get in to check, I like it better than the early FFXA I was using (one of the early ones not long after the game was released)

Jambo I just upgraded from a 8800gt to a GTX 560ti by Asus with 1GB of vram. Still to overclock my 2500k and stick in another 4GB of GSkill ram. Just waiting for Windows 7 to arrive to do that.

Just changed over to SkyBoost and yes it is an improvement over TESVAL acceleration layer. Much smoother and a tangible increase in fps at Dragonsreach for example.

Is anybody using Vurt's improved flora mod? Meant to go well with Lush Trees and Lush Grass mods.

Do you think a CPU overclock will see any worthwhile increases in fps? I might OC the GPU too, although it's already overclocked out the factory by Asus.

I use the Improved Flora Mod. Its a big change, I use Skyrim HD as my base for HD Textures then I got some other ones like, barrels and furniture, trees, food books etc etc. They all make a huge difference

It actually looks pretty good in vanilla mode from first impressions, probably a bit sharper than on PS3. Will try a couple of the suggested mods and see if it improves any.
