Looking forward to racing online with variable weather, should make for some fun races.

The out of the box content looks good, I hope it's supported for a decent amount of time and given a chance before the modders get hold of it with there own interpretations, which as we know can be a very mixed bag.

As ever I hope the AI can race well and provide a good challenge, also interested in how the online side of things will work, will it be league based or have more flexibility?

If its league based only then I'm not really interested, being a shift worker I couldnt make a "sunday evening" race every week sort of thing so the game would be useless to me. If it has a few servers running races all the time like iracing and LFS then I will be on it for sure

Things are looking up for us sim races with rfactor 2, iracing 2.0, netcar pro delevopment and hopefully simbin will announce something and stop beating that race07 engine to death.

I know man, quite depressing to see such low specs but rFactor looked great modded so with new shaders and other PP effects i'm sure it will still look great even with them feable specs.

I want to see .C.A.R.S specs, that will be a beast

hehe na what i mean is that i expected the specs to be lower given by the screenshots we have seen so far. it gives me slight hope that the finished version of rfactor 2 will look decent. what was shifts2' spec? was it similar to this?

C.A.R.S spec would need tri SLI 580GTX just to loa dup the car selection screen LOL

Some rF2 shots with some HDR, HDR will be on a slider scale in game and these are at the extreme end. They do make the cars stand out alot more and give tons more depth

Loving the motion blur on the tyre in the last shot

Some beta news

Quote:
The recent rFactor 2 Q&A has stirred up a lot of discussion in the rFactor community, especially the announced online account system has lead to some false conclusions.

To add some facts to the discussion, Image Space Incorporated has now announced the official pricing of rFactor 2.

The title will sell for $43.99, allowing unlimited access to single player & mod development mode. The price also includes 12 months of online account membership, an additional year of account membership can be purchased for $12.99.

So, what does the online account membership offer? The online account gives players access to multiplayer races, find and download updates automatically and offer a Mod ID system that will help prevent mismatches. Furthermore, ISI is working on providing additional features such as online statistics.

Player’s whose online account membership runs out can’t use the multiplayer features anymore, the single player & mod modes remain fully functional though. Players without an account can also manually download & install mods & updates.

Furthermore, ISI has released first info on the often-hinted open-beta period. The open beta will allow interested sim racers & modders to get early access to a content-limited version of rFactor 2. To participate, a full purchase of rFactor 2 is necessary, in return open-beta users will be given 18 months of online account access instead of the 12.

The release dates of both the open-beta & retail versions are still unknown, ISI has already hinted that the open-beta and even the retail release might kick off in 2011.
Quote:
Back in November, Image Space Incorporated announced the pricing of their upcoming rFactor 2 simulation, also announcing an open-beta period for interested customers.

The open beta is due to start later this year and will give rFactor 2 buyers access to an early, content-limited, version of rFactor 2.

The open beta will require a full purchase of rFactor 2 for $43.99, as thank you for participating beta users will be receiving 18 months of online account membership instead of the 12 months included in the retail version.

The open beta version will give users the chance to sample three different cars and six tracks, including both historic and current racing content:

Historic

1 licensed 1966 F1 car, with generic fillers.
3 tracks: Spa, Monaco, and another.
Current

Renault Megane, Formula Renault 3.5
3 tracks (most likely), Malaysia, Portugal, Mills.
The inclusion of the historic Monaco and Spa Francorchamps layouts means that two of rFactor 2′s most anticipated content items will help shorten the waiting time for the retail release.

Even though the officially-licensed F1 car hasn’t been revealed yet, ISI has released two sneak peeks in their forum you can see below, revealing the car to be the Brabham BT20.

A start date for the open beta hasn’t been announced yet, it’s likely to launch in the remaining days of 2011 though.

Not for me anymore i'm afraid. pCARS is more innovating with it's targets and is a next gen simulation. This is just the same sim i raced for 7 years with some slight changes.

GTR3 on the other hand after hearing these sounds below is firmly on my radar.

Me like

I didn't know this was still going to happen, do SINBIN have the FIA GT licence then?

Going to be a good time for sim racers with Rfactor2, GTR3 and pCARS and I'll probably end up getting all of them.

Yes, i'm sure they do. If you look closley at the pics, you can see a GT3 Audi R8 and a few others. Sounds are just amazing!

Yeah, rF2 is dead as a dodo for me, will not be getting it. The video released showed nothing that excites me in the least. pCARS is the future IMO and now GTR3 after hearing those sounds

Exactly mate, this should of been out around the same time as GTR Evolution and it would of excited me more. But pCARS is the one to watch, people are judging the game now on it's Alpha form but you think 6 months down the line once everything starts coming together, it will be untouchable IMO. Already now IMO some cars are matching some of the best rF mods and it's only pre-alpha.

Know what you mean about Rfactor2, if the physics are new and improved + weather with good out of the box content I may take a look.

pCARS is exciting, although it's still too early to know how advanced the sim aspect will be, I have to admit I do worry sometimes when I read dev responses to some threads. Still it's very early days and I hope some topics will be up for discussion when the time comes.

What sort of comments mate? I know a couple can come across a bit rude sometimes but i don't think it's intentional.

It's mental. The AI are retarded though btw but the FFB is the best out there by a mile

Well reading the isi forums. it seems that the game has some issues:

1. decent quad core i7 high end rigs struggling to maintain 60fps(vital for a racing game, 60fps is mimimum)
2. graphics look very outdated. no better then rf1(yet point 1 happens? why?)
3. FFB is terrible on a G25/G27 wheel as at 50% it is loud and very very aggressive on the wheel

All and all i dont know if its worth getting this beta just yet

Runs superb for me maxed, the FFB is industry best, betters even NetKars. You need to tone it right down though, i found 55% to be the sweet spot as it's very harsh out of the box.

I have only driven the 60's F1 cars as they are all that appeal to me of the current content. Possibly the most scary version of the car ever in a sim. It has a huge learning curve similiar to GPL. But the tyre model is impressive and so the tracks almost feel laser scanned due to this and the FFB. Due to the sense of speed, at ful speed over the bumps it makes you feel nervous, my blood was pumping like never before. But it has alot of bugs and needs to mature. If pCARS can match this FFB then IMO it will beat this sim hands down

Graphically it's pretty meh, just rF1 with high res textures.

1st run video, just to show you how scary it can be

From that video it looks and sounds fine to me I've never got to grips with that old version of Spa, always get carried away and end up crashing

Small Youtube videos flatter it tbh, bit like they do for GT5. GT5 on a big screen look nowhere near as good as Youtube makes out.

BUT it's immersive as hell and if you value FFB and feel then this is now industry best by a mile.. Will post a 30 car field video later
