From what I remember I think I had the standard fighter/barbarian character and I think I was around level 13 or something so I might use the same character again. Presumably I can't use the heroes from say Nightfall to complete the quests I didn't do in the first game?

As for my regular playing times, I don't have any as yet. Once I get the game I'll be able to give you more concrete times but I know that I can't do Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays really but other than that I should be fine.

I was tempted to get WoW or Rift but I don't really wanna pay a sub fee every month and have a similar problem to GW. Those types of games however good they are just seem like money pits to me and I don't like the idea of forever paying for something that theoretically has no end.
nightfall and factions can be standalone, but if you install it then log onto your account and add the expansion you can move characters across campaigns

if your warrior reaches lion's arch then you can go across to the other campaigns, get heroes and take them whereever you like :D

id add them all to the same account if i were you, can swap stuff between characters from each campaign and take someone from one campaign and finish a different campaign first, alot of freedom

I havent played for a long time and alot of big updates have happened so things may have changed i'll definately be a bit rusty

Guild Wars: Game of the Year Edition - GuildWars Wikia, an unofficial Guild Wars wiki
this is details for the goty, it is prophecies (the original) with some bonus items, so you would only get the bonus items (i have them, they aren't that great)

if you're looking for the deal with all of the games in one you want:
Guild Wars Complete Collection: Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games

DO NOT BUY USED, I bought a used factions, me not realising that it had an account tied to it so had to buy it again so i could put it on my account :P

Well I just found the answer to my other question about what the GOTY includes, I think it's just got bonus items and is the first game only. I see Steam also has a trilogy version containing GW, Factions and Nightfall and that EOTN has to be bought separately. Well I'm in the process of installing the first GW game again, luckily I still have everything in the original box.

I think I will buy Factions, Nightfall and EOTN online through NCSoft/Arenanet. That way everything should be tied to the same account. I too will be very rusty at this as it's a few years since I last played.

I can't remember where I was last up to so I couldn't tell you if I got to Lion's Arch. I'm debating whether to start afresh with a new character or not. If I start with a new character in say Nightfall and then create a band of heroes and do the quests in that game, will I then be able to go back to the first game and complete those quests?

a new character in nightfall means you can try out the dervish or paragon professions, can grab heroes and take them to tyria (the original game land) and explore and do the quests. no pre-searing with nightfall though.

I think if i'm coming back i'll probably start a new character.

If you are reinstalling you will get bogged down with map downloads while playing...

Command line - GuildWars Wikia, an unofficial Guild Wars wiki

use the "-image" command line to do one big download so it doesn't annoy you during game :D

I've completely forgot my NCSoft account name/password so I've had to email them to ask them to provide me with the details but I suspect I'll have to create a new account as I've haven't played the game for such a long time and I no longer use my original email address that I used to sign up with.

I just checked the shop and it's cheaper to buy the GW Trilogy which contains the main game and Factions/Nightfall along with EOTN than to buy the expansions separately.

Luckily I remembered my old character's name and it is indeed a level 13 warrior/elementalist. I think I might just go ahead and create a new character though in Nightfall so I can create heroes and then go back to do the other campaigns.

Once I get everything set up I'll let you guys know, I'd be happy to join your guild Deadringers and then perhaps we can all have regular meets and get back into the game.

imo most mmorpg games have terrible storylines.

GW1 has probably the bets storyline but its still not as good as many single player rpg games.

the day i see a MMO witha compelling storyline like witcher 2 or some of final fantasy games, the day i start enjoying MMO even better!

as of now, MMO are more for community/social MP games

Starting a new character in Nightfall is a good idea, it's probably the easiest game to get started in.
But I'd advise keeping your old char if wanted to but that only depends if your willing to continue on with it.
Not sure how much of the game you know about but 2nd professions(in your warriors case Elementalist(my first character was a War/Ele as well)) you can change when you get to a certain point.
Since you've invested some time it may be good to keep the character but then no real harm in deleting and starting over, you can reach lvl 20 in a matter of hours if you know what your doing or get some help(altho I think that only really applied if you are starting in Factions)

I don't get the chance to get one much these days, don't have the computer to do so but if anyone wants to add me then feel free.

Ai Cortana

One thing I love about GW is you only need to add one name, instead of each character.
I got like 11 characters altogther

I just realised (upon reinstall) that I sold most of my decent stuff to get armour sets for HOM (before realising I wouldn't be able to retrieve them anyway)

So I will definately be starting fresh :P

Shame armour is customised by default

So many still playing? the guild I was in before I packed up was dead. Was a great group aswell.

edit: left the old guild, invite please

Well I bought the GW Trilogy pack on Sunday which includes the main game (even though I already own it in disc form) and the two stand-alone's Factions/Nightfall. I especially wanted Nightfall so I can add heroes to my team for those times when I'll be playing solo.

I managed to get my old NCsoft account reactivated (I bought the games through NCS online) and have created a new character for use in Nightfall called Afx Twn. I've only just started doing the quests in Nightfall and have one hero called Koss and a couple of regular henchmen in tow. Unfortunately this has all coincided with me getting the beginnings of a cold (really sore throat at the moment) so I haven't been in the mood to put the hours in yet.

It didn't take me as long as I thought it would to get back into the swing of things, I have been doing the tutorial quests though just to remind myself how to play. I forgot how easy you can die with a new character/early on in the game and the annoyance of having to walk all the way back from the resurrection shrine to retry the quest. Plus one of my early quests I have to collect some juvenile termite legs and I've killed a few of them but none have dropped any legs for me, just coins.

Anyway, as I said my character is called Afx Twn if anyone's up for some questing/creating a guild.

What has anyone else made of Sylvari week? Im still undecided whether I like them as a race, think I will need to play the game to be sure but I am increasingly impressed by the features of the game and how different it is to other MMOs.

Well stupidly I haven't played this for a few weeks as I bought a load of other games in recent offers on Steam and similar download sites (damn you dealspwn.com!) I've been playing Civ 5 and trying and constantly failing at getting Fallout 3 to work on my Win 7 PC.

Anyway, I think I will go back to GW soon as I did really enjoy the first campaign and after I'd recently bought the expansions I am keen to get back into it. But along with this game I also have Batman AA, Sins of A Solar Empire, Borderlands DLC, Assassins Creed 2 and Prototype (which I bought today) to be getting on with.

Too many games and nowhere near enough time to play them all!

I came across my copy of guild wars the other day and was toying with the idea of installing it. But same as everyone too many games I haven't played yet and not enough time.

sadly not, but 2012 seems the most reasonable speculation

Really good article here from Nowgamer: Guild Wars 2: A Perfect 10 - NowGamer

They do a series where they look at a games potential to be 10/10. There is another for Diablo 3 thats well worth a read too.

Theres always a chance ArenaNet are watching and waiting to see what Blizzard are doing with Diablo 3's release.......by the same token Blizzard could be waiting to see what ArenaNet do........although surely Blizzard fear no one to go head to head against.

Hence the different names I could say the same about movies couldn't I mate! Doesn't stop two Studios from shying away from going head to head against each other!

Yea but these games are aimed at two different markets. You dont see EA sports give a damm about COD MW games when they release fifa!

Diablo aint a patch over GW2!!

It's a multiplayer online RPG... I am pretty sure there will be a large crossover of interest.
