Unhappy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Screen Issue

Hi folks. I have the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 and I've actually really enjoyed it online. I've met some folks through Steam and we've all added each other and we play for quite some time in the night.

Problem here is... since the 2nd patch through steam (patch .68) the XP bar, team scores, and writing text has all moved up a few notches from the bottom (middle) and moved out to the right from the left. Now this isn't problematic in terms of gameplay but it's putting me off, it's not right, and at the end when people type stuff it goes over the edges of peoples names when the scoreboard appears.

It's not my system, I have updated my video card, and my Specs run the game at 92fps on MAX graphics with 4xx Smooth Smoke Edges, Extra everything, at 1680x1050.

Phenom II X4 955 3.2Ghz BE
Crosshair III Formula iRoG
Corsair XMS3 1600MHz DDR3
XFX 1GB 4870 GDDR5 x16 (2.0) Video Card
800W Crossfire Power Supply
Antec 1200 Case
22x Dual DVD ReWriter
Supreme FX X-Fi
Windows 7 64 Bit.

Not sure if I'm missing anything but the point is, I don't think it's my system. It's since IW released the latest patch through Steam. (2nd Patch - ending in .68).

I've tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling, defragging the game and the entire system. I even e-mailed Robert Bowling and sent him a message on Yahoo Messenger. Regarding this and login issues as well on IWs site. lol

I don't use these forums much but they tend to be jam packed, so I'll drop by far more often.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,

FX

Sound's very odd...

I mean that sound's more like corrupt game files. However you said you have reinstalled the game...

Hmmmm how did you reinstall from the DVD? Or did you download through steam?

I reinstalled from DVD. I prefer DVD's over electronic purchase. Specially since the UK has naff broadband and they love to cap us (Virgin Media here).

I cleared the cache files, I defragmented the game. I've tinkered with the resolution. I've played it in safe mode (640x480) as well as slightly higher resolutions (1200x800). When I put it on 1680x1050. It still is 1680x1050... everything is the same size, the graphics look the same (not all jaggy as u get with lower resolutions regardless of AA on or off) [I have 4xAA].

I have the XFX 1GB 4870. I downloaded new video drivers like, yesterday or day before. Either way this was an update, an I believe it runs the card better on Windows 7 too.

It's such a shame. Thanks for the replies so far guys. Hopefully I can sort this out.

My computer is being sent off on Wednesday or sometime later this week because the PSU squeals. Nothing is wrong with it, jus the fact it makes noise. So it'll be away for a while, but I would still appreciate assistance on this.

Thanks again.

Overscan settings? Why what should it be set to? I don't even know where they are in Catalyst.

I don't think it's that anyway but I'll be willing to check, because as mentioned when the 2nd patch came out through Steam (.68) then the XP bar, Scores, Text etc was over to the right more and further up in the screen. Not things like messages per kill, an game stuff, just user typed text and the game score next to the XP bar and the XP bar itself.

Peace and thanks everyone so far.

Not COOL!

New patch for MW2. Patch .69 and I was excited thinking the problem would be resolved. Well... it isn't. It's the same!

Is there anything I can change in ATI Catalyst? O#, isomg Version 2009.1104.959.17837

I updated it the other day about 3-4 days ago after patch .68 messed up my screen.

It is using the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0.50727.4927.

I have OpenGL Triple Buffering on, but I've had that on even before the problem. I have pretty much everything else like AA, AAA and AF all set to application controlled.

I believe that there is something in the MW2 Config file that IW has changed which doesn't agree on 1GB XFX 4870's.

As mentioned before I have Windows 7 - 64 bit.

Thanks for the help so far...

Patch .69 is out and I still have it. I went onto Half Life 2 earlier and I noticed the screen was fine on 1680x1050 except the ammo counter was raised from the bottom right to the middle right of the screen and there was a large single number in the small box.

It's as if the whole screen changes resolution, except some parts of graphics. This leads me to believe it is a problem with Steam.

Any suggestions from here?

Take a screen grab to show us what is happening on your pc.

Ctrl and Print Screen

then past it into Paint, then save as a jpeg and upload it to image shack.

ImageShack® - Image Hosting

and post it here.

Also this is not relevant to this dudes help request, thread jacking

EDIT: your sig says 360 . . are u in the wrong forum section maybe?

I have a photobucket account but I hate making accounts on everything since I don't want more companies to make profit out of my details in this horrid corrupt world. Lolz

So I'll upload the images to my usual place - where I also upload my videos - on FX (ukfx)

There you can see the COD:MW2 screens. I'll go play Half Life 2 in a minute and take a screen of the problem area. This yesterday, led me to believe that the problem isn't actually IW with Call of Duty but instead is a result of the Steam update that came with the COD patch. Thus leading me to believe it was Modern Warfare 2.

As mentioned before, the game fits in the resolution perfectly fine, the graphics are sharper as expected with higher resolutions but it seems some parts of the game don't change resolutions. It's like there is a giant resolution (or mini res) within my standard 1680x1050 currently active on that screen. I'm sure you'll all understand what I mean when you see the screenshots.

For example, the large number inside the ammo counter, although it's been moved up and to the right, but the box itself is small, the number inside is huge, and doesn't fit the ammo counter at all. So that looks like either a really small resolution stretched into a small space, or a larger resolution confined to a tiny space when the rest of the game is running at 16x10.

Bah... Check the screenies in about an hour. My eyes still hurt from my eye screening and I don't fancy playing games while partially blind and sensitive to light.

Thanks again to everyone and all of your help.

I will check back later...

PEACE!

OK. Weird.

Before on HL2 I must admit I was tinkering with Graphics. I upped everything to 16x AF and 6XX, Vertical Sync from off, to ON, back to OFF. I put reflect everything on water, and pretty much just maxed it out. I didn't notice the transition between the dodgy non-fitting ammo box among other things I can't remember, but I just went onto HL2... same settings n' all that, and it's OK. Everything fits.

However, I took 4 screenshots. 2 in Private match on Afghan. 2 on Derail on Multiplayer. Afghan screens can be ignored if need be, but the 2 new Derail ones clearly show that the game still has this glitch. I still think Steam is the culprit.

Any ideas from here? (Check FX (ukfx) - an check screenshots

Thanks again.

Exclamation

Aspect Ration is 16:10, or Auto. I've tried both settings.

My Resolution is native 1680x1050 at all times on MW2.

At the moment I don't have my computer, it's been shipped for RMA to PCSpecialist.co.uk and since they first shipped my PC with a dent and have now refused to repair it, after replacing the power supply (which was the original fault) I have had the wrong RMA shipped back to me. This machine is better than my own and has more value and I am holding on to it until I get my PC. It is my leverage.

I wouldn't shop with PCSpecialist.co.uk guys. Excuse their awards. They ship broken computers, blame it on their customers, and then refuse to help even out of courtesy when other mistakes aer involved. Cube247.co.uk or Overclockers.co.uk are a better option.

Thanks for the help regarding the screen problem, remember to use my XFire page to view the screenshots of the before and after. www.xfire.com/profile/ukfx

I will try any suggestions if and when I get my Computer back. I'm just currently dealing with legal threats from PCSpecialist.co.uk because I said I was keeping this PC until I received mine - in which I have every right to do.

Can you believe it? Legal threats? Don't shop there folks, I warn you now.

Peace

Screen remains the same after patches!

OK folks. Finally got my PC back! Out of courtesy from PC Specialist, had 1010w modular PSU put in replacing the faulty 800w non-modular PSU. I'd just like to ask, I still have the power lead of the one given to be used with my 800w. I asked my Dad, he said a 5amp fused plus is ok to be used with a 1010w PSU. He said there is nothing to worry about he's tested them before. He said to be extra safe I could use a 13amp fused plug, but 5amp is fine. Is it OK? Apart from my plug arching this morning because the power cord was lose, I've tested everything and the system as run all day, apart from it rebooting during arching because it wasn't plugged in properly, I've checked device manager and everything runs fine, it's reported no errors, no problems shown and it says in device manager everything is working properly as should be. I've also kept an eye on it all day, it's been running for like 12 hours. Stand-by mode is OK. Is it safe to say I've avoided any damage? Anyway, back to parts added, I've also had 2 thumb screws put on Antec 1200 at the back so I can take side panel off easier. Also had Corsair 1600Mhz XMS3 replaced with Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz, even though it didn't need changing (as far as I know). I've heard this RAM has better latency, has a better memory chip, is made of better material and runs cooler, is this true? I've read that on a few sites and forums. Had 5 games given to me too (ones related to free ones given with video cards as far as I can tell). 4 on Disc, 1 via download.

Company of Heroes - XFX
Tomb Raider Anniversary
Hawx - XFX
Grid
Dirt 2 (Download on Steam) - ATI Radeon

Not bad eh? They cannot replace the case because they don't sell it any more. Although when I checked the case today, it's not as bad as what I first remembered it.

Thank you PC Specialist.

Anyhow, whilst I've been away, Modern Warfare 2 has had a few more patches and surprise surprise, the screen remains the same. I honestly don't know how to fix this folks, SOMEONE plz help me. !!!

Having the XP bar raised n moved inward on the screen is rather annoying. As far as I'm aware it's not the video card. I've updated it an everything...

I think it's best if I go check for more video updates?

I've defaulted the video settings AGAIN. Put Triple buffering back on and I've put the default no smoke edge smoothing on and auto aspect ration. Still no luck.

Any ideas? Sorry for rambling. I'm concerned about my PC after it wasn't plugged in properly (arching due to not being plugged in fully at kettle plug at back of PC PSU)

Thanks - really appreciate the help folks.

Merry Christmas.
