Re: Help me win a Pc v console argument

A fact...Hmm

The 360 is so powerful that it can run call of duty at 600p with no aa and can't even manage to keep a rock solid 60fps.

To be honest if someone honestly thinks a console is more powerful than a gaming pc, they are deluded, there's no point even trying to get through to them.

It'll be like taking to a brick wall.

What is better about consoles is the plug and play nature of it, but that's about it.

Re: Help me win a Pc v console argument

tell them that they're wrong, and leave.

there's no point trying to explain "HD" to console fan*boys or any non-AV enthusiasts really, as the fact remains that PC's were capable of doing "HD" far and long before anyone decided it should be a marketing ploy

anyway, for arguments sake, the majority of 360 games are indeed "HD", or 1280x720 pixels, which equals 921,600 total pixels onscreen

your measly 1920x1200 display seemingly breaks through the barrier of being "FullHD"!! (how can this be possible?! FULL! HD! ) and renders a measly 2,304,000, which as you can quite happily point out to them, is exactly 2 and a half times more detail

Ask them if they know what jaggies are, coz you haven't the foggiest

*missed this vital word...

No.

You can select to have it upscale to 1080p.

Even the dashbaord (nxe) isn't native 720p and upscaled 1080p on it don't look great.

The ps3 is native 1080p on the xmb though.

Both consoles generally upscale.

The ps3 has more native 1080p games than the 360.

The easiest thing to compare it to is a DVD player. Most DVD players will upscale the 480i or 576i material on the DVD-Video upto 1080p. But that doesn't make the video look as good as a Blu-ray (which you would expect to be native 1080p). It adds very little other than ensure a 1:1 pixel match with the screen. The vast majority of AAA Xbox 360 games are rendered in sub-HD resolutions and are merely upscaled thus - by contrast a PC is rendering at the chosen resolution.

Ultimately, and I'm sure CAS FAN will disagree, consoles are cut down PCs. The advantage is they are cheap. The disadvantages are you are told how to play (i.e. with what controller), effectively pay a tribune for every game you buy, are limited in your choices (i.e. mods, downloadable content, handling save games/profiles) etc etc.

.
I know, it wasn't a positive thing.

I simply answered Craig has I got the impression he thought the 360 was native 1080p.

You could upscale halo 3 to 1080p and as you say it won't be like playing 1080p on the pc.

Re: Help me win a Pc v console argument

I am always wondering because of this debate whether or not to buy a particular game on PS3 or to get it on Windows PC (I have both a mid-high end gaming machine with 1920x1200 24inch monitor and a PS3 with a 32inch LCD). I know some games from reading reviews are better on console than PC (such as Alone in the Dark) and othe are better on PC, however it can be confusing at times to know what version to spend your money on.

Re: Help me win a Pc v console argument

for any games which have a good multiplayer angle i always buy on my xbox360 (MW2 for example).

This is basically because of my set up - PC upstairs and hence i dont use that when kids are in bed etc.

xbox plugged into TV - happy days when kids are in bed.

There is nothing wrong with the xbox 360- i would go as far as saying that its the best console that has ever been released (and i have played and owned most of them)

the fact remains that if you've got the hardware for it, PC will always give you the best picture

consoles are limited to what a limited set of pre-determined hardware can do, and always will be; pc's are limited only by the size of your wallet
