Looking for a 5.1 surround sound headset

Ideally around £50-60. Its for my son as a stocking filler for when he get L4D2 and MW2.

I know the budget is tight but I cant really stretch it any more. Do these 5.1 surround sound headsets really work? Do you hear sounds behind etc?

Re: Looking for a 5.1 surround sound headset

i bought a pair before around 3 years ago and still use them today

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/9159094/SPEEDLINK-SL-8793-SBK-Medusa-NX-5-1-Gaming-Headset/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0&&engine=froogle_ pc&keyword=SPEEDLINK+SL-8793-SBK+Medusa+NX+5.1+Gaming+Headset&_$ja=tsid:11518|c c:|prd:9159094|cat:Peripherals

they sound very good and the base is fantastic on that model.

as for the sound effects - i would not say that the sound comes from behind you but the stereo imaging is certainly better than stereo headsets and there is a certain deal of immersion when using them

Re: Looking for a 5.1 surround sound headset

to be honest i was basically looking at just getting a pair of head phones but did a bit of research and the medusa ones were very highly rated so i went for those.

they work without the need for any real dedicated sound card - i basically have an onboard sound card and they work very well

Too use the 5.1 surround headsets, make sure he has a 5.1 surround sound card! brand of card is not really an issue due to the low cost of the headphones.

The headphones linked are good. But im of the opinion a desktop logitech usb mic + a pair of sein 555s or something similar, will give better quality audio in and out over a dedicated headset. it also means the headphone can be used for ipod, tv etc.

Re: Looking for a 5.1 surround sound headset

I bought some Gamecom 777s for about £50 the other week from Amazon and very impressed. The actual surround sound is a bit meh, doesn't really work (and didn't expect it to) but the quality of the sound and mic is good.

Mostly went for it as it has the option of USB and 3.5mm, so will work on other things as well.

I wouldn't bother to get any surround sound headphones on a budget because in short they are rubbish. Just get him some Fatality ones for around £30 and he will love them.

Re: Looking for a 5.1 surround sound headset

I have some Medusa 5.1 headphones and they work really well. I was actually shocked at how good they replicated the 5.1 effect.

They are also really well made.

They look pretty sweet. My room isn't ideal for a 5.1 setup. Might see what Santa brings me for Xmas

EDIT: Actually, are there any like these that would work with the Xbox 360 too? I got a 5.1 card o my PC but how would you hook these up to get 5.1 on the Xbox?

I use Tritton AX360's.

They work on both PC and 360. They come with a digital receiver which takes the digital signal from your 360
