I think you need to have Steam installed? Try that!

Re: orange box disc 2

As SirTiger says, ensure Steam is downloaded and then register the serial key with your account. Once you've done this you can download the latest version of The Orange Box games directly from Steam.

Re: orange box disc 2

Isn't the installer on disc 1 and not disc 2? (is that only for game files?) As has been said you don't really need the discs once the key has been put into steam.

Re: orange box disc 2

installing from the CD is so 2002.

Download steam, active game using keycode, let steam download it (including ALL patches) with 1 click.

It will them keep the game updated, as we all know TF2 gets 6 patches a day.

Do you know if you can do that for a game you have already installed on your PC using the disc or is the code taken then?

eeeeep ill have to pass on that one. As far as I was aware, TF2 etc would ONLY play on steam . . so he would have had to make an account to play. (something to do with steam acheivments). he would need to login to steam on that account and download to that account. You cant move games between accouts A and B if he has another.

The above is by no means fact and only what I read on another forum.

What game are you thinking of Chaosx? Some third party games - Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars - come in two flavours, via Steam or on disc. The disc version does not register with Steam though so you can't add it to your games and cannot download at will later.

Re: orange box disc 2

I want to link Rainbow Six Vegas 2 as I'm fed up of constantly having to change discs every time I want to change game.

I had unreal tournament 3 on my PC installed from disc, then I noticed there was an option to add to steam. Uninstalled it and put the code into steam, it downloaded the game into my games list.

Can't see why it shouldn't work the same way for Rainbow Six if it's on the list of codes for steam you can add.
