Borderlands

First reviews appearing seem to be pretty good, and since some of us are looking for a good co-op fix now MW2 has fallen to fail

IGN: Borderlands Review

Quote:
Gearbox's Borderlands is without a doubt a slick, satisfying hybrid title for those who know what to expect. If you're a shooter fan curious what the world of Pandora is all about, then you should know that this is a product built on a foundation of statistical progression, character customization, and one that holds item acquisition high above interesting quest structure and narrative. At the same time, it plays like a shooter, requiring twitch skills to dominate the droves of enemies that stand in between you and your search for a mysterious vault. With the opportunity for up to four to join together for co-operative play, four character classes, a dizzying array of firearms, around 20 or so hours of content for a single playthrough and the option to restart with stronger enemies and loot, there's plenty of content here. It's a thoroughly enjoyable journey that offers a steady stream of rewards that remains convenient and accessible. It's something action role-playing game fans looking for an experience more up-close and brutal than genre entries of the third-person variety should have a blast with, and one of the more memorable products of 2009.

Re: Borderlands

Was hoping more people would be interested in playing the PC version. Could have a 4 pack buy in at Steam, costing £20.24 per person.

I'd be interested in doing that for sure. It takes a whole £6 off the price then.

Just need two more people. Razor? Anyone else?

Re: Borderlands

Only unlocking early in states though by looks of it, UK timer still says 5 days, US one now days 1 day. No idea on demo, but anyone wanting the cheapest rate needs to be jumping on pretty soon!

Oggie, want to join my purchase or the original one being planned here? already done a left 4 dead 2 one yesterday via another forum, and I've got some amount of itrader feedback here, I'm thinking of going ahead anyway and finding fourth person after I've bought otherwise, perhaps in trading forums.

Re: Borderlands

One person buys the 4 pack, and gifts the three other copies to their friends/whomever, generally with expectations of being paid for the other three, unless they're really generous of course.

Re: Borderlands

Most of the internet is a buzz with how good this game is. Seriously making me thinking about getting it now, everyone loves the online/co-op play.

Found it at Play.com for £24.99 - any cheaper?

Quick question does it have a "match making" feature, or do I have to get some friends first?

Re: Borderlands

Mine turned up this morning, first impressions are Reminds me a little of the Fallout series. The graphics take a little getting used to, a little on the cartoon side with washed out colours although it works.

I cannot speak for the online segment, have just spent some time running through the missions.

I cannot seem to get the game to pick up sound properly, in windows 7 everything else is working fine, my amp picks up DTS and DD and everything else, my amp is only picking up stereo and I cannot see any obvious ways to change that, anyone got any idea?

Re: Borderlands

Does your soundcard encode dts? and if so, you might need to select hardware openal in the game or something, vista/win7 are notorious for disabling surround sound in games, unless they use openal.

Strange thing is the ingame options are terribly limited, all the usual graphical changes are there but with sound, the only option is to increase the volume... I just cannot work it out.

Re: Borderlands

Well by looking around various forums and looking ingame, the following problems are currently noted.

1) No AA or refresh rate adjustments possible

2) Vehicle controls are Halo style

3) No surround sound

4) No mic settings

I hope at least 1-3 can be fixed, no AA or Surround sound is pretty poor
