Race On demo released

Once again we are at that time of year again when Simbin feel like milking the community. And we have a new game ( cough cough expansion ) with some really great muscle cars and a few new tracks namely Laguna & Road America.

It's worth paying the spondoolies alone for a Simbin quality Laguna & Road America IMO but not gonna bother this time.

So to any of you remotely bothered, the demos below

Re: Race On demo released

Cheers Nismo! Downloading the demo now. Looking forward to trying out Laguna as it's one of my fave tracks.

Will probably get this, although I agree they do seem to milk the community a fair bit. I guess Evo was really just for the ring. That said, hopefully it will be around for around £17 ish, which isn't bad.

Re: Race On demo released

Tried this demo today...

Firstly I couldn't believe my eyes when I got onto the track, the graphics look so dated especially the environments.

I've not played GTR since playing NFS shift, the graphics in the later are on another planet.

Also why put a diesel Seat Leon in a demo, must be one of the most boring cars I've ever driven in a game.

Behind the wheel though it's solid, with very good physics, the cars feel weighty and react to camber and bumps on the track accordingly with a good sense of weight transfer, a very satisfying drive. I was playing the Forza 3 demo this morning and then installed RaceOn demo which drives a lot better, far more convincing and realistic, the car feels so much more connected to the track.

At the moment though I won't be buying RaceON, I can play EVO/GTR2/GTL which drive just as good and look the same, plus I'm actually really enjoying NFS Shift now and playing thorugh the Career with it's different events. I probably won't be getting Forza 3 at release either, I know it has loads of cars but the driving experience is lacking something and there's not as many real world tracks as I'd like, and there most likely smooth as glass.

Re: Race On demo released

Are these Laguna and Road America tracks any better than the ones other people have provided for free?

Re: Race On demo released

No you can`t play Laguna or Road America in the demo -- it`s Ochersleben (sp?) & Falkenberg (short but fast track).

The chaps at racedepatment seem to like the full version - out in the US - in particular Laguna and Road America are supposed to be a big step up in the graphics / texture department and the Formula Masters is touted by some as the best open wheel sim car

Discussion here

I tried the demo but it didn`t really do it for me. I can`t seem to go back to GTR Evo etc. I find that it doesn`t run as well as rFactor yet doesn`t look as good. I also prefer the FFB on rFactor now that I have got the realfeel settings to my liking. rFactor 80`s Touring Cars, Cart Factor, FSone - all great. Also really like the Historix mod importing GT Legends into rFactor. I also enjoy Power and Glory mod for GTR2 which somehow feels completely different. I just can`t get back into the feel of GTR Evo / Race - I know they are still highly regarded and used extensively for league racing - maybe it`s my FFB settings.

Cheers

Re: Race On demo released

If there was and option for EVO + STCC owners to simply upgrade for a lower price then i would maybe consider. But the game does not include any EVO content , only Race 07 and STCC and a few texture updates, crappy cars and 2 tracks i would want.... Road America & Luguna Seca. And for me i'm not paying just for them tracks alone.

I bought STCC and must of played it a handfull of times, shame really as it has some great content, inpaticular the tracks. But it's just not used in any of the popular leagues so it's wasted.

Also, after spending time with SHIFTS Road America then i doubt Race On's will compare. Simbins tracks in EVO are completely flat and uninvolving compared to SHIFTS. But EVO the game itself is miles better, but SHIFT does have some great touches, inpaticular track sufaces and also has the best Spa by a mile. The only game that comes close to SHIFT for the immersion factor in giving the user the sensation of the g-forces and cockpit and real world movement is rFactor which also does track sufaces welll aswell.

GTR2 for me is well past it tbh, we had a few games a few weeks back and it just felt wrong. rFactor is still king IMO until number 2 graces us, and EVO a close 2nd. Just wish i could spend as much time as i used to with rFactor.

Re: Race On demo released

Played some EVO yesterday, and the GT cars do drive great and I agree better than GTR2 largely due to a better tyre model.

However it's quite hard to compare, as the cars in GTR2 are of different specs and with different tyre compounds. Even so I prefer the GTR2 cars in EVO using the GTR2 Mod as the tyre grip threshold is far less on and off and more progressive.

If Race ON came with all previous content I may have got it, but as it stands no.

Re: Race On demo released

There are some parts that i miss like crazy in EVO that were in GTR2, like the night racing and as you say different tyre compounds rather than just slick & wet Saying that though, my favourite EVO mod, the V8 supercars has the addded options of softs. I also miss the way the engine degraded in GTR2 if you slammed down through the gearbox, which in EVO you can seriously abuse before binning the engine/gearbox. Also, alot of EVO cars you can run a 20-30 minute race with the radiater open on 1-2, which would of been possible on GTR2..

For it's time GTR2 was the daddy, but it really is showing it's age now and i really don't like it anymore. On the other hand rFactor is just full of fantastic mods atm and is shiining even more. I always favoured rFactor anyway as i prefer the physics and FFB.

EVO is the daddy for me now though as it's all i really use due to the leagues. Thats until rFactor2 is released and then we will be moving to that.
