Hi ya

Very nice indeed, I think this is spot on theme. Like the way you have used the light.

I like the idea and I like the lighting from the DS screen. The Xbox 360 control pad has not went unoticed either.
Good entry.

Re: Young Addict

I think it shows the addiction quite well... he's playing late into the night. I was trying to think of a way to convey my gaming addiction with 525 games but it just seems scruffy.

That's excellent. I love the lighting and how you've subtly suggested addiction with the 360 controller too.

Re: Young Addict

On theme, love the way that you have captured the light, and also the way that he has rested the game on his knee.

Just two small things that keep catching my eye, one is the slanted Horizon that his sitting on, and also it would maybe have been nice for him to have both hands on the game, to looks like he was playing rather than holding, I then noticed and I don't know if it's just me, but there is something strange happening with his left hand, it seems to be disappearing.

Over all it's a great idea, and you have pulled of the theme very well, the lighting is great. Nice idea to include the control pad, well done a great entry.
Jay.

Re: Young Addict

Thanks for all the positive comments peeps

The light I used is from an LED head torch diffused with tissue paper, the DS screen just wasnt bright enough

@ Broken Arrow - I tried to do something with all my games and controllers, but it ended up looking like an ebay advert

@C4PRRE - He must have moved his hand during the shot, I hadnt really thought about it till I posted it I thought it looked a little weird but figured it was his sleeve being pulled down.

I'm actually amazed I got him to sit still for so long, I took about 50 pics and this was the closest to what I had in mind. He likes to pull faces, and down a bit or up a bit to him equates to full arm movement

I also think that I may need to adjust my monitor settings as there is something else in the picture that I can see clearly on my screen, but not on the CRT at work without boosting the brightness.

Anyone see it?

Cheers,

Alun

Re: Young Addict

Great idea and very nicely done.

The composition detracts from the focus point though.I guess you have tried to use the legs to lead to the game but I feel they dominate the foreground a tad much.Youve got the lower two thirds full of legs and just the top third filled with addiction.

it'll do well Though

Very very nicely done Alun.
Really like it a lot. Especially the choice to leave the subject's face hidden.

Re: Young Addict

i really like this one......my little girl is 'addicted' to her NDS too

Great composition, like the way you have captured the shadow on the wall, the little touches such as the controllers on the floor and the light from the DS on his face. Makes this entry one of my .

Pity about the missing hand.....

Nice one...

Re: Young Addict

You had my vote for originality. The rest just seemed too obvious and lacking in imagination. Technical proficiency is nothing without an eye for an interesting image.

I love the lighting and the way the light intensity draws the viewer slowly but surely into the subject. To finally focus on the raised eyebrows lit only by the screen. There is a lot of movement and a little humour here. Which I like a lot. You make the viewer work for their reward. No instant gratification. Which is good in my book.

So many images flash everything like a whore in the first nanosecond and then you move swiftly on. Yours is the complete opposite. It demands viewer participation of a high level without being pseudo "difficult art" where you know instantly that the artist is just b*******ting you.

The pose is clever too. It could all have been so easily thrown away but you resisted. It distills our techno-obsessive times perfectly into one image.

One to be proud of in many different ways. Both technically and artistically.
