March 2007 Winner - WORK

Work/Wok - thought I'd combine the two. You cant beat a commercial kitchen for a crazy working environment, and oriental kitchens are madder than most. I nearly had my eyebrows singed off taking this. No idea how the chef does it!

This was taken at one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to outside Thailand, the Thai Terrace in Guildford, UK. Significant negotiations were required to get into the kitchen and bar for the shoot whilst they were in the midst of the evening rush. I also took a bunch in the bar area as well which I'll post up in the "Its not valid but I'll show it anyway" thread. I then had to return again tonight to re-shoot this particular one to get the exposure on the chef's face right.

Great capture Tobers. The flame is impressive. My only (minor) critisism is the slight softness to the image, but I think I would be shaking around too in that situation, making sure that the camera or me was't flambéd & next on the menu

I really like this one

You've got the movement blur of the flame, pan & the chef's hand, but his face/head is motionless as he concentrates on what he's doing.

Another great entry for this month competition

Love the way you have capture the chef face with the warm orange glow from the fire and the motion movements with his hand on the wok.

Great shot - I had a similar plan for getting shots of a burger flipper at the local McD's, but bottled out

This is much more dramatic, though - great exposure, and sense of movement...

The restaurant manager wants this pic sized at A3 and framed at the entrance the the restaurant. He was really pleased with it. Result
