January07 Winner - Wildlife

I tried all sorts of things to get a decent shot this month, went to several places here in west wales to try and capture Red Kite - not easy. I'll post the results in the not valid thread.

Anyway, I made this shot earlier in the month, so this is now my entry. Made while eating toast and marmalade sat at the kitchen table through a gap in the blinds/open door. Made loads and loads of exposures before getting what I was looking for - the frame count on my camera has been significantly increased with this months theme!

EXIF should be embedded, but here are the basics:

D50
ISO 400
200mm (Manual focus Nikon AIS lens - doesn't appear on exif)
F4
1/250 sec

Cropped, balanced, and minor colour adjustments made in Photoshop

Re: January - Wildlife

brill there must have been some painstaking waiting for that shot.

Love the movement in the wings, great shot liquid

Did you manage to get down to Grigin farm for the red kites?.I thought of going down but my 200mm aint long enough.

You need long, long lenses for the little beauties.I like the one you posted on the its not valid thread. nice shots all round matey.

Re: January - Wildlife

Nice

Looks like it has just realised that the table is there and he is using his feet as breaks, and wings as a parachute to slow down.

Re: January - Wildlife

Excellent shot! Did you have a tripod set up pointing at the feeder?

Yes ineed, it was already set up. This bird, along with others was coming and going, I was firing each time, trying to get the 'coming into land' shot that I finally ended up with

Re: January - Wildlife

Really good capture - just imagine the cost of all those near misses if you were using film!

Re: January - Wildlife

Really like the way you have used the bird table itself as the frame for the image, and got the full wing span.

Very well done. I like it a lot.
