Really like that Gordon; has an Australian "poster" feel about it (don't know why as I've never been to the Antipodes!) and I have to compliment the straight horizon, usually an after thought where water shots are concerned, where'd you take it?

It was taken at Saint Agnes beach last week when I unexpectedly had an afternoon off.
I'm going to print off a large copy and send it to the Lifeguard hut at the beach. Hope they like it.

Really like it...

However, I can't help but feel it would have been even better if the 'lifeguard' on his back had not been obscured, but I think you have captured the background really well!

I agree, I would have gone back and asked him to remove his belt thing if I had time. However, it was one of those, "of the moment" shots. Not staged.

Love that shot Gordon. I don't feel you need to see the whole word as it is obvious that it says "lifeguard". Another top entry...

Gordon.

Superb. May favourite again this month, by a long chalk. In fact have voted for you in the last two comps. People will talk

Superb bokeh...is that from the 2.8 Sigma?

The standard is really high again, but this is a winner for me up to now.

Can't put my finger on why I like it but It's a great shot.

Thanks everyone. Pete: It's the Sigma. I had actually given up for the afternoon and had been using the F4L 70-200 but as I walked away from the beach I turned around and saw the shot. Stuck the Sigma on and put it to max zoom and set the low aperture in order to get the shortest depth of field I could.

Amazing shot. I love the unfocused background and the crests of waves just about to break, adds a feeling of power and movement to the usually plain background

Very cool shot - can't add much else that the others haven't already said, though... composition, bokeh, timiing - all superb!

Re: People Watching

lovely shot Gordon, but for me the background is just a little too out of focus. Slightly more definition to the people in the sea would have helped I think?

Still, great composition and colour.

Re: People Watching

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the comments. The intention was to isolate the lifeguard, showing his lonely existence on a beach full of fun. It's obvious it's a beach and it's obvious it's an adult with kids in the surf. Due to the out of focus composition it makes them look almost alien to me and I like the effect. Still, it's nice that you still enjoyed some of what it has to offer. Thanks for looking

Gordon
