Re: 5 O'Clock shadow

Very nice shot indeed - love the wood grain detail and the shadow contrast

Must admit that when I saw the title I was kind of expecting some sort of "clock/time" theme though.

Re: 5 O'Clock shadow

I like this, but it makes me feel a little queasy! Is the shot taken from directly above? As it feels as if it is leaning forward.

I agree.

If you simply rotate it through 90 degrees so the fork is upright I think it really improves the shot.

Or perhaps try rotating to the "5 O'Clock position" ?

Re: 5 O'Clock shadow

I really like the central idea of casting a wide shadow, which is clever.
It's probably a personal thing, but the only thing I have a problem with is the wooden background. It adds complexity to the scene but isn't directly related to the subject.

Re: 5 O'Clock shadow

Thanks for the comments.

Zombane I stuck the fork to two planks of laminate floor so that I could adjust the shadow that was cast by the sunlight by tilting it to about 45 degrees, then shot from above.
I can see what you mean about the queasy effect that its given it though
