Smithfield Starburst

[imglink]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2491/3906983519_d0a3029eea.jpg[/IMGlink]

Camera: Nikon D40
Exposure: 0.025 sec (1/40)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 38 mm
ISO Speed: 360
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: No Flash
Date and Time (Original): 2009:09:10 18:37:03

Converted from Raw to JPG and increased the contrast slightly. Also added a vignette.

Smithfield Meat & Poultry Market, London.

Haven't entered the competition for a few months, but really fancied at go at this theme. I tried a couple of other ideas first, but decided to take a walk to Smithfield after work tonight to see if I could do anything with the (semi) famous glass hexagons.

Was quite pleased when I got there to see that a light behind the wall was creating a starburst effect (not sure what the light was, but it did move a few times !!), so quickly grabbed a few shots before I could be run over..

Smithfield Market is a real mix of buildings, with some of it from the Victorian times, with the bit shown here from the swinging sixties..

The angles might look a bit off, but Charterhouse Street is on a hill, so something had to give..

Thanks for looking..

Re: Smithfield Starburst

Nice to see these great entries coming in! I had in my mind I would try an architectural shot, but ended up with something completely different. This is the type of shot I would have liked to enter myself! Low key, and urban.... well spotted, nice job!

Re: Smithfield Starburst

Thanks for the comments, but according to the feedback in this thread, I've entered the wrong shot

Re: Smithfield Starburst

I like this one better in general, but other one might have been a better competitor...

Still a great shot for competition though

Re: Smithfield Starburst

Like this. Like the star bust, and also like the 5 missing "tiles" as that almost looks like a star burst as well. I might have been tempted to just get the glass wall, but then I suppose as you have it here it puts it into context about where / what it is.

Ian.

Re: Smithfield Starburst

I like this too. And the starburst. I think it would have perhaps been better if you had the building fill the screen without the pedestrian. But I still like it.

Re: Smithfield Starburst

I think the pedestrian and the starburst make this photo. Otherwise it becomes a bit of a study without a story. Good one.
