A glass of scotch...

...on the rocks.

Click through to view on black.

I never thought I'd be able to amuse myself for two hours by repeatedly dropping ice cubes into a glasss of scotch This was the best result.

Camera used: Sony A700
Shutter Speed: 1/320
Focal Length: 50mm
ISO: 100
Aperture: f8

One F42AM used, wirelessly.

Edit: forgot to detail my PP, here goes.

Crop in LR
+0.5 exposure in LR
Contrast +25 in LR
Saturation +5 in LR
Sharpness 50 LR
Vibrance +10 in LR
Clarity +35 in LR

(it's all in the Exif)

In PS used masks to fix a small water patch that had gotten onto the reflective base.

Exif can be found here Zone.

Re: A glass of scotch...

I was hoping to see a least one shot like this, and this is excellent. Well captured! I hope not too much 'scotch' got wasted!

Re: A glass of scotch...

I love this photo, the light is great and the neutral colour choice for the background etc shows off the colour of the scotch very well.

My only reservation would be that in a theme about glass I feel that maybe the scotch has become the point of interest in the photo rather than the glass itself but that is a minor niggle.

Re: A glass of scotch...

Very well done, you patience of dropping those ice cubes has paid off. It's nice and clear and crisp, and the black top / background show it off nicely.

Re: A glass of scotch...

Hope you didn't waste too much scotch as Butch said .

It's an excellent shot, and I love how the whiskey looks, splashing... I do agree with Jonstone though. This photo would be more suited to a "liquid" theme.

Still an amazing shot though!

Re: A glass of scotch...

Cheers for all the great comments guys.

With regards to whether this is on theme or not, I definately think it is (I would, wouldn't I? ). The actual glass the whiskey is in plays a big part in the composition of the image. Also, the reflection is from a piece of glass out of a picture frame on a sheet of A4 paper, so there's a reflection of glass in glass. Also, I'd say the point of interest in the photo is a glass of scotch, so the picture plays on that second meaning of the word glass.

On reflection (sorry for the pun ) I agree, its a great glass shot with added interest from the splash

Re: A glass of scotch...

Although this shot has been done numerous times before I think this is a really good example. The reflection on the surface, along with excellent background toning and lighting really add to the image!

My only slight crit would be that the the individual droplets of whiskey could be slightly sharper. I can't see exif but I suspect either increasing the aperture or, more likely, increasing the shutter speed may have helped. Still an awesome shot though and one of my favourites for the month so far!

Re: A glass of scotch...

There is no "e" in Scotch whisky

Apart from that I like the shot but I feel the glass is a bit too dark in that it doesn't really sparkle.

This is a great shot. As CyBeRkId2002 said this kind of photo has been done before but your version is a great one. My favourite so far.

Re: A glass of scotch...

Very good shot. My only criticism is that you clearly should have nailed it on the first take and spent the balance of the two hours admiring the resulting shot by toasting with what was left in the bottle! Shame on you
