No speaker stands - can I use kids?

Hi

Well, my new 9.0 rears arrived on staurday , flat self adhesive cabeles this morning, rear stands...e-mail arrived telling they will be at least 2 - 4 weeks

Still, underterred I was wondering what I could use instead, and it occurred one small child stood in each corner holding a speaker each would be perect. My question is, do I use spikes or blue tack to fix the speakers?

Any other suggestions welcome.

Have a good Christmas!

Chris

I'd go with blue tack. Your likely to want to re-use the kids at some point in the future

You could use the kids, but you'd have to put nails in their feet in order to get a good connection with the floor under the carpet. Would they mind that, do you think?

I think in laws would work better, not as quick as kids so you have a better chance of stopping them when they try to escape. Ensure those speakers in particular are VERY loud to drown out the moaning and whinging.

Re: No speaker stands - can I use kids?

Thanks guys - both kids similar height (if the younger stands on tip toes) and weight (Mirriam Stoppard did stay there were advantages to having them less than 18 months appart)!

On a separate point, will I get better surround if they hold they hold the speakers above their heads, and should the marble slabs be under the speakers or under their feet?!

Got to go - annoying wimpering sound to deal with

Cheers

Chris

Get two of those cheap black plastic buckets and some sand. Put a layer of sand in the bottom of each bucket, one slightly higher for the shorter kid to stand on. Place the kids' feet in their respective buckets and add sand to steady/secure them. In this instance I'd place the buckets upon the marble slabs but you could try it both ways.

Re: No speaker stands - can I use kids?

Actuall I would only use the sand to get the heights of the buckets equated, and then to finalise the job replace the sand with concrete. That should ensure the speakers are an equal height, and as long as you feed the speaker stands at an equal rate, they should remain like that.

Of course once they get to puberty, the noise and whining from the speaker stands will get more prounounced and volumous (and in the case of a male speaker stand may intefere with the sub) but by then it will be upgrade time anyway

At that point I will move the speakers into their bedrooms and leave them there until its time to move them onto students digs.

Stange thing this, don't usually get this much response to my posts

Cheers

Re: No speaker stands - can I use kids?

Are you kidding me with this question ????????

There's a plasma tv right in front that the kids would be better versed to hold rather than some lame speakers at the rear. PLus when your tv remote dies, you can just use the voice activated remote which is holding up the 50kg plasma.

Get them some gloves* and a training belt, then you're good to go

* to protect the screen

Re: No speaker stands - can I use kids?

Hmmm, had forgotten about the voice activated remote (who wants to get daddy another beer from the fridge)?

Anyway, went with the bucket solution for now, pic attached.

No point specifying dry sand, it will likely become damp during normal use.
