Anyone got any ideas for a car seat to take on holiday for an 18 month old. Need it for taxi to airport, taxi connection from airport to hotel, hire car and then return journey.

Last year we took his Maxi Cosi stage 1 seat, so not a real issue. He is out of that now, and has a priorifix which weighs a ton and certainly not easy to travel with.

Last hols we did ask for the taxi connections to have a car seat but no luck, so must assume that one won't be arranged. Can't believe this dilemma is exclusive to us but can't say I ever notice people lugging 2 year Olds and massive car seats through the airport?

Any advice gratefully received.

You get inflatable car seats.
Brilliant idea.
Look up 'easycarseat' on Amazon.
If you don't fancy inflatable, you can get portable ones that fold up.

These look quite clever: Trunki BoostApak Travel Pack Booster Seat: Amazon.co.uk: Baby

Thank FZR, I found it by following his search on Amazon

That one is suitable for 4 year olds upwards.

I thought that was a joke at first...

Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure about the inflatable seat for an 18 month old. We already have the booster seat for my daughter and that is great.

will keep looking.

It was one of those ideas that made me think I was going to have a 'Dragons Den' moment and make a fortune.
Only to find someone else had thought of it first.
I'm seriously thinking of buying two for a holiday in Spain in 4 weeks.
I've asked the hire car company for two car seats, but what's the chances......

Hmm, I am going to need a child seat for a 1 year old in September. Car hire place wants €50, which is pretty much how much a budget one costs to buy!

I'd hope 50 euros is for 2 weeks, not one?
Do you really want the hassle of taking a seat with you?
Unlikely you'd be able to check it in at the desk, it'll be classed as 'awkward'.
So you'd be redirected to another part of the airport to deal with that.
Then, potentially, another part of the airport on arrival as well.
Like last year, when we took a folding buggy to CDG with us.
No sign of it on the carousel, so off we go wandering around looking for it.
Eventually I (almost literally) stumbled over it lying on the floor at the opposite end of the terminal.
No supervision, just a 6' x 6' square of tape with our buggy and some other stuff lying there.
Lucky any of it was still there, which is probably more of a reflection as to the state of our buggy than the honesty of people.

One week unfortunately. We were looking into taking one, as BA let you take two additional items with children (buggy and car seat for us) but their flights are now £200 more expensive, so think we are going with sleazyjet and everything costs more with them.
Just reluctant to give someone €50 for a seat that more than likely only cost that much in the first place, and is probably many years old.

But yes, looking to take a stroller type buggy too. Sounds like some fun added at the airport then.

50 euros for a week is excessive.
We recently booked a week car hire in Spain, through Argus car hire.
We have to go to the Avis desk on arrival, Argus are just a broker (it could be Hertz next time)
We've requested 2 x car seats, no extra charge.
I note they are now charging 25 euros per week though.
I suppose the difference is I can't 'kick off' if the seats aren't there, whereas I could if I'd paid.
I'm hoping at least one will be there, for our 3YO.
The 9YO can manage with an adult seatbelt for a short while (maybe fold up a jacket under her).
If there aren't any seats there, that will be a worry for the wee one.

€25 is acceptable I think, but €50 is a joke for a week. If they don't have a seat though, we are screwed, as Lola would only be 1 when we go, so no other options really.

I note you haven't actually booked the flights yet, have you actually booked the car yet?
It should be feasible to find a company that does free child seats.
I was going to Google for you, but can't see a destination mentioned.
