VGA-2000 Component Box and Gamecube

I just bought a VGA-2000 Hyperkin Converter box for my computer. Hooked it up, and the PC's feed came through fine. I got excited and bought a component cable for my gamecube. Everything is fine and dandy...

Until I hit the switch and it says
"Cannot display this video mode
Optimum Resolution: 1280 x 1024, 60hz"

I put the 60hz setting on my monitor down from 75hz refresh rate, and tried putting on the Optimum Resolution. Nothing. The box says it supports SXGA Resolution (1600x1200.) I have a 17in Dell LCD monitor that came with my desktop. The display settings screen says that I have two monitors, exactly the same, hooked up, and one is secondary. Their highest resolution is 1920x1440, but the thing is I only have one monitor. They have the 1600x1200 resolution setting, but every time I click it, I can't see the majority of my monitor unless I move my mouse to the edge of the screen, and then my viewpoint moves.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and I hate to waste $60 that I paid for the component cable and the converter box.

Re: VGA-2000 Component Box and Gamecube

Thumps,

Are you using NTSC games and running them in progressive scan mode (usually hold B at startup)? Not all Gamecube games support progressive(480p) output so they will still output 480i.

Not knowing much about the Hyperkin box I'm guessing that it will only convert progressive signals to vga (which is relatively easy) rather than deinterlace a 480i/576i signal into a vga/progressive signal.

A cheap box that will do that is the HD Box Pro which is what I have and is available from here:

HD Box Pro

I have some review details and images at:

Thread at NTSC-UK

Hope this helps.

A North American game that displays at their resolution of 480 lines at 30Hz.
A European game displays in PAL which is 576 lines at 25Hz.

(...roughly speaking)
