Death of the pre-orders?

With COD MW2 coming out today and all the supermarkets selling it around 26 - 32quid, do you think people will stop pre ordering from websites etc, and wait for the deals of the day?

I got it for 35quid from Argos on pre order and also have DRising 2 and ACreed 2 on pre order, but thats because I had vouchers.

From now on I think I will wait to see what supermarkets are doing before pre ordering AAA titles.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Death of the pre-orders?

Only games I pre-order now are japanese imports that I know wont get a UK release & are likely to sell out pretty quickly if I dont pre-order (Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 on Xbox360 as an Example)

Havent pre-ordered a UK title since the days of SNES & like you said with the advent of Supermarket specials it makes you wonder why you would.

Actually just thinking last game I bought on release day was Gears of War 2 & that was only because Sainsburys were doing it cheap.

I cant see me ever pre-ordering again unless there is something super special coming with it as a pre-order bonus.

Re: Death of the pre-orders?

I don't pre-order anymore because often or not the games will drop in price shortly afterwards and that really gets on my nerves. I still can't get my head around how games simply drop away in value often to a mere fraction of their original price in 3 months. Nowadays I prefer to enjoy gaming as cheaply as possible.

Re: Death of the pre-orders?

I don't usually preorder a game because of this reason. I don't see the point in preordering at full retail when usually the price drops almost instantly. Saying that I did preorder Left 4 Dead 2 at full retail, but that's only because I was able to use paypal money, and I preferred to do that than use my current account.
