MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

Which is the best version?

According to the following website: XBOX

Quicker loading times
Smoother frame rate
Better shadow textures
Missing 'bloom' effect on PS3..

Hope it helps!

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

Well the differences are really small when it comes to playing a game like this.
Framerates mean nothing to me when i'm trying to avoid being killed and running around the map like a mad thing.
TBH the XBox version looks like Dynamic contrast has been applied and in parts its far too exposed.

I use my TV for enhancements like that.

I have it on the 360 BTW.

Ha ha nice unbiased site that one....

Agree with Trey4Life there that the 360 screens just look like they have turned on Dynamic contrast

Looking through their 'head to heads' it appears that the one they play on the brightest Telly wins..

I think it's a bit more than contrast, more like 20fps between the two at times.

Read a proper comparison.

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

ah this old chestnut again!

If you have trouble deciding on such a trivial matter, then sell one of the consoles and you'll find your life much simpler

Whichever your friends play online
whichever controller you like best
whichever one is cheapest
whether you remembered to get your Gold Live this year
Whether your girlfriend is going to be playing that stupid rubber duck game on PSN and you'll be stuck watching for the 400th time wishing you were dead
All of the above?

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

Whether or not you give a monkeys about the comparison reviews, it still bodes the question why after 3 years the ps3 versions of multiformat titles are still being viewed as inferior (even slightly) when said machine is supposed to be more powerful than its 360 counterpart?.

Whilst this continues to be the case i see no point in any of these threads, just buy whichever you want, if it's multiformat the 360 version will probably be slightly better.

I don't own a ps3 but won't be knocking it, i do own a 360 and a wii but don't play on either, i have neither the time or the patience atm, i don't own MW2 and care not which version is better, neither should you.

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

It certainly seems that the 360 version is the one to go for if you have to buy this on a console. I actually prefer the look of the PS3 visuals, but the framerate dips are quite noticable and the 360 version looks a lot smoother when the action hots up.

When you look at Uncharted 2 (easily the best looking game on a console this generation) it's odd that some devs just can't seem to program the PS3.

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

From some of the complaints raised on the PS3 forums, it sounds like the online has been disastrous initially on PS3, though it may well have been sorted now. I can confirm that the 360 has been fairly solid on the online side of things. Regarding SP/Spec Ops, I doubt there's any noticeable difference between the two.

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

If you only have a PS3, get it for PS3.

If you only have a 360, get it for 360.

If you have both (and pay for Live), get it for the version that most of your mates have.

It's not really hard is it, you don't need some crappy comparison to tell you which version to get. A bit of common sense is all is required.

Keep fighting the good fight Baldy

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

I have the game for both consoles as I have friends on both, I am playing it on a 50" Samsung 1080p plasma tv and to be honest I prefer the visuals of the PS3 version.

I think both games look great but I just prefer the PS3 version, also to those wondering about online problems with the PS3 version, I have had no problems whatsoever with it.

My findings are very different... I've played MW2 on both 360 and PS3 and the 360 version is definately better.

The graphics slow down on the PS3, particularly in split screen, and to those who say it doesn't matter in the heat of battle it most certainly does when it affects how well the game plays! I found this was most noticable on the snowmobile races.

On the overwatch spec ops mission the thermal image from the helicopter is much more blurry on the PS3, although i'm unsure if this is intentional or not.

On split screen multiplayer you can't sign 2 profiles in like you can on the 360, but this may be a feature the PS3 lacks compared to the 360 as opposed to a game specific issue.

But the main issue with the PS3 version up to this point has been the online side of things. Since launch there have been issues with the game not unlocking trophies, not syncing trophies, friends invites not working and the online play being totally broken and being unable to get into online games. The game has been patched 4 times already since launch and now FINALLY seems to be fixed!

My PS3 is my platform of choice these days but these issues have certainly been a pain, a poor show considering this is the biggest video game release ever!

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

Sell your XBox and PS3, and then buy a PC... and then you can get the best looking/smoothest version of the game.

If you want to put it into AV terms... the console versions are like comparing a film on different DVD releases, whereas the PC version would be the Blu-ray release. Totally different class.

You PC Fanboys really are the worst. In a thread that explicitly excludes gamers that don't use PC's, you still try and shoe-horn in your propaganda. It's laughable really

Welll said! - Most people dont have either the skill or the finances to keep up with gamer spec pcs - however for aslittle as £150ish you can play the game on the 360...

My pc is for the internet and stuff and nothing else and hasnt been updated for over 4 years!

Speak for yourself, but it's a bit presumptuous to think that folk on an AV forum have no money . You may have, but i'd actually wager that the majority of the folk on this forum can actually afford a PC.

My TV alone for instance cost 3.5 times what my recent PC build cost and as an AV device a PC is actually not that expensive at all. I've also bought 4 TV's since I last upgraded my PC .

If this thread is to be a useful source of reference then it would make more sense to compare all versions and not just restrict it to the two versions mentioned in the title.

Re: MW2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3

Why do people keep saying 'Mine is better than yours' ?

I have both all three major consoles, and have the game on PS3 and 360.

Which is best ? Who cares.

I get the same enjoyment on either console.

Let's be fair though CAS, this thread was never intended to be a useful source of reference. OP in mind

It may be a good idea to set up true multi-format comparison for future big releases. We could even include the Wii for Razor's benefit but, seriously, the PC's always will be best so it's almost pointless to include it in these comparisons. Maybe we just need the title of the board to be changed to,

'Other Gaming Chat (PC is always best)'

Apologies to Eiren btw, I was a bit narky and pompous feeling this morning

Sure the PC versions will almost always be best, but the idea of comparisons is whether the benefits make it worth buying over a console version. With this game there's no dedicated servers (so the PC version is just like the console versions online) and no pad support (which is a bit of a pain for sofa gamers like me).

Personally I think it's still worth buying the PC version over the 360 or PS3 versions, but others may not and even though the PC version looks better, it's not as cut and dried as it often is.

I actually was racking my brains earlier trying to think of a way to knock up a list of major games comparisons across the formats, after deciding we'd be needing quite a few members who owned all versions of the game in order to create said list and needing to rate each attribute separately and agree on it, i gave it up as a bad job.

It's a fair point in graphics aren't everything, i actually decided that the wii version of one particular game could be best due to it's control system above graphical prowness that solitary game was tiger woods 10.

Indeed, I agree with that and happen to think that the likes of the Metroid Prime Collection offers some of the best FPS controls out there.

It's certainly not all about visuals, which is why comparisons are always valid IMO.

Hmmm - not really propaganda is it? The PC version is the best. Given that AVF's membership is home cinema orientated, i.e. people after the very best experience possible by their entertainment equipment, it seems daft to me to not extend this to gaming. Do people who spend that extra cash getting the very best picture and sound quality for their movies/TV not also want to get the same quality in gaming? I certainly do - and the PC offers by far the best gaming experience both graphically and control wise. I see the 'PC Gaming premium' as equal to paying that little extra for more that we do with AV gear.

Yea but the thread title does state "Mw2 - which version if you have both Xbox and PS3" surely this signifies the op wasn't really interested if the pc version was superior or not, otherwise they would have added the words "or pc".

This is where Hodg100's reference to shoe-horning comes in, it's like being force fed something no-one asked for.

Well because you could sell both consoles and get a PC that's a lot more powerful and flexible than either, and still have money left over.

That's a very valid option in this case.

A good gaming PC doesn't cost the earth anymore, and is probably better value in the long run.

At least you won't be stuck with 2004/2005 technology.

I disagree. I think it is very important to state all the facts especially for a game such as MW2 that runs on a very low spec PC. I mean you have to appreciate that people other than the OP read these threads and it is worth giving them the full picture. Even more so when the difference between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are so little - if you want the best graphics then PC is the way.

I have the 360 version. My younget has the PS3 version. They are, for all intents and purposes identical. The only way you are going to spot and difference is have them running side by side, takeing screen captures and frame rate monitors etc - I.e. you would have to be a complete idiot to even bother and an a bigger one to care.

They are the same.

But on the other hand you also have to weigh up the needs of the forum as a whole.

I'm sure you would agree that it makes sense to have a thread where people can compare all aspects of all versions of COD6 in one place. Sure the OP was only interested in the 360 & PS3 versions, but other people are certainly debating whether to get a console version or the PC version.

The other option is to have multiple threads, but that is untidy and a lot of the posts will be duplicated and someone may miss a good post in one thread, through just reading the other.

Sites like this are fluid discussion forums and although there a duty to stay on topic, there is also a duty to expand topics where relevant.

I see nothing wrong with discussing the PC version. Even if it may not be of interest to BaldyBouncer, believe it or not there are others on this forum who are actually into AV (not just console gaming) and appreciate getting the best audio visual presentation of games, movies, TV etc.

Personally I think it's still worth buying the PC version over the 360 or PS3 versions, but others may not and even though the PC version looks better, it's not as cut and dried as it often is.
OK then CAS, show me a PC version of a X-platform game that is inferior to a console version in any way shape or form. The two examples you give are almost the exclusive domain of PC gaming. Sure the odd console game has dedicated servers but I certainly can't think of one X-platform game that has them on consoles and not PC so at the very least the PC version achieves parity in this area and in the case of MW2, you get 9 v 9 against the consoles' 8 v 8. You've actually said yourself that you only use consoles for exclusives these days

Actually yes, it is propaganda. Propaganda doesn't have to be misinformation If you read my subsequent post you'll see that I agree that the PC version is always going to be best but that's my whole point, it isn't necessary to include it in the comparison particularly when the thread title is designed to specifically exclude it.

I think anyone savvy enough to be up their AV gear is also going to know that PC gaming rules the roost in terms of eye candy, at the very least, and the fact remains that this thread was never intended as vehicle for including the PC in comparison yet, for some reason, some of you feel the need to spread 'the word' and it comes over as 'fanboyism', I'm afraid.

Show me one person debating whether to get the console version over the PC version in 'Other Gaming Chat'. In fact show me one of these 360 v PS3 threads where the OP has decided to get the PC version in the end...
