Guitar Hero's helping me quit smoking!

Probably of no interest to anyone, but I'm so pleased at the moment!

As of Monday evening at 21:00, I haven't had a cigarette. This may not seem a biggie, but it is to me! I was very close to caving in and having a cigarette last night, but was saved by Guitar Hero: World Tour (My mate had an extra copy and let me have it!). It kept me occupied and gave me something to do with my hands (not like that!

). I've now got past the first 72 hours without a cigarette which is apparently the hardest and I feel great for it! I just need to sort out the lack of sleep from spending all night attempting Satch Boogie!

Next difficult bit, not to smoke on my birthday at the end of the month!

Hey nice one mate - congratulations !!! Whatever works for you has to be good. Just stick to the easy songs for now - wouldn't want your frustration leading to the need for a cigarette

Its hard giving up... One of the hardest things ive ever done.

The first week is the hardest and then it eases big time

Conversely, not playing guitar has helped me maintain my 20 a day habbit.

I tried giving up and after the first three days it feels brilliant! you start to actually feel alot better. I wish i had kept it up because it was better being a non-smoker but unfortunately all of my friends at work smoke so i started going out for a break while they had a cig and then eventually caved in!

I hope you manage it, just need to keep it up! Best of luck mate

I kicked the habit a year or so ago & the money I save pays for my gaming!

Just think 2 months off the dreaded weed will pay for Guitar Hero 5 full band set!!!

Good man, im off them nearly ten months and i smokes 20 a day for the last 15 years. Prince of Persia actually got me through the worst of mine.

Cheers to everyone! Happy to report that it's still doing the job! Been much easier today - the smoking that is, still need more practice on Satch Boogie as my mate's thrashing me on it!

Hmm i found the first few days to be the easiest honestly that's why so many people pack in and start again, i've given up for five years now and was nailing 60 a day (i had an outside job and therefore a good excuse) before i packed in, just decided enough was enough and that was it, no patches no gum or anything though i ate tons of chocolate at first to make up for it, needless to say i piled on a few stone and actually felt worse health wise for at least 12 months!

Will never forget for the first 6 months at least i used to follow people who smoked around town breathing in their secondary fumes and the urge was still there occasionally for at least 12 months, i'm over it now and no longer get the urge at all, willpower and a good enough reason to quit is all you need.

Well done for now anyway and good luck continuing, post back in 6 months and keep us updated.

Well done for giving up the cigs, Big step to a healthy life.

I'll be trying this myself on th 18th (my bday), but guitar hero has been played so much i doubt its going to help me as i'll give up on the game through boredom. World of warcraft also makes me smoke more so i'll have to cut my time down on that.
Got any tips?
