Gimme a good reason why I shouldn't get rid of my Gamecube

I am starting to grow out of my little Gamecube. 15 and still growing, that's me. I wanna get a PS2. Had one, traded for my Cube and I regret it... I wanna get GTA, GT, Tekken and loads of other games that are better on the PS2. Especially the Tony Hawk games. The PS2 is the only console that is best with the Tony Hawk games. I live for them! I can ACTUALLY go online with a PS2 cos the Gamecube Network adapters can be a tad expensive and rare. Plus there's practically no online games on the Cube. So tell me, why should I get rid of the Gamecube?

As it happens, I think my GC is awesome and would never swap it but each to their own.

The GC network adaptors are for creating a LAN so you'll need several in the same locality to make use of it. How can 16-player Mario Kart on 8 different screens be a bad thing?! There's quite a few games that can utilise it, but there's no "online" capability as such.

Edit: Without using Warp Tunnel to create the same effect.

i_like_xbox!?!?

the quality of games on xbox is sooooo much better than the PS2 not to mention the graphics... (even with component cable i cant cope with ps2 graphics) i have all three machines and can assure you that recently i have bought tons of quality titles on the xbox. XIII, rainbow six 3, midtown madness 2, topspin, freedom fighters etc and each title cost under £20! (A couple were £12.99 brand spanking new) you can get tony hawks on xbox and project gotham 2 is sweeeeeeeeeeter than gt. also gta3 and vice city have arrived on xbox. the only genre its lacking is a decent footy game but i'm guessing that its only a matter of time.................... keep your cube cos its gonna go the way of dreamcast.... (hang on to it man!?!?!?) and get an xbox.....

Meh, no need for an Xbox. Me Dad's got one.

EDIT: And why would I wanna keep a Cube with such rubbish games!? Eg, Starfox, Star Wars ROgue Leader, Zelda WW, Zelda Collector's Edition disc and XIII. XIII is just driving me UP the wall right now.

Okay lads, decided to keep. Can anyone just gimme a good site for import games? It's just that I found this site that has a freeloader for £3.99. It's the latest version too! Preferably looking for a site with cheap games and low import taxes. Meh, I have to admit, the Gamecube does have quite a few games to look forward to. Plus I'd only regret it cos I love me Zelda games.

http://www.goblindirect.com/
thats a pretty good site, a little pricey to start but the more you buy the cheaper the prices get !!!
you gain points for each buy, if you want you can use the points to get money off next buy. (144 points = £1.44 off next)
or you can save up points to just get a load of free games all at once :D
this site is only good for imports so i suggest buying released games from local stores

i_like_it_cube: i feel the same as you having owned the ps2 with some cool titles with it, now ive got a gamecube and just feel its lacking something and am now trying to get a ps2 back under my tv. could you share the site that you got the freeloader from as getting cheaper games would be a cool thing for my gamecube and may put a little life back into the machine.
also try looking at www.lik-sang.com as they have some us and jap games pretty cheap and they seem to go at good prices on ebay as alot of people dont seem bothered about us titles, but im gaggin to know where you got the freeloader from

Well I haven't bought the Freeloader yet but it's at http://www.goblindirect.com/MainCont...tCat=GameCube. I'd like to know the shipping cost that Lik-Sang has please. So with goblindirect, your saying that if I buy a game that's £34.99, the games that are the same price will get cheaper? You're confusing me.

H4r7y: Don't get another PS2. If there's a next generation console to buy other than the Cube, it's an XBox. My Dad just ordered the GTA double pak so I'm happy! ^^ There's so many good games! Don't waste money on a console where most of the games are on either the Cube or XBox.

thanks alot for the link to the freeloader, im still not convinced that its worth having an xbox if you have a decent pc as all the games just seem to be ported over to the xbox. im open to other ideas but i think, right now that its a false economy.

I can't think of any good reasons not to get rid of your Gamecube.

I actually gave mine to my mother as I was literally never playing it.

There aren't enough hours in the day to play the games on my PS2, XBox and PC. And the PS2 is only ever used when I play on the Eyetoy with my eldest son.

The nearest game equivalent to project gotham 2 on the ps2 is "penny racers" (both in realism and gameplay)

Why dont you get an Xbox like old pops and link them both up and play against each other - even better get a life connection each and you can both play on the same servers against others ?

Im lucky as i have both Consoles and use them for different games. At the moment im currently playing my GC for Mariocart and Megaman. But i still use the PS2 for GTA and Gran Turismo.

It depends in what sort of mood im in and what games i wanna play.

You can pick up a second hand PS2 for about £70.00 these days maybe u could go that route??

I wouldnt sell either console and i would never own an XBOX.

Thanks

Dal

why would they wanna link when you got games like "penny racers" style racer PGR2 on xbox!?! (according to a previous post anyhow..) seriously though a second xbox is gonna be more fun and interesting than 1 ps2 which i feel the games developers are realising the limitations of (have done for a while) and are only just beginning to exploit and utilise the power and flexibility of the xbox....

pgr2 is much better game than gt3. i should know have spent many hours with both and pgr2 is just awesome in comparison and its on xbox live which makes it even sweeter (as someone else said earlier!)

I've played both too and GT3 is definitely more realistic. Wait for GT4 to come out and PS2 will kick XBOX ass again...

(and before you start, Halo is pants too, you can just about run as fast as you can walk slowly on quake 3 - talk about slow and boring)

but maybe i'm not being fair, after all I was due to buy an xbox but got a ps2 as a present instead. I'm now glad that i didn't get an xbox because:
*the range of titles is much poorer than what's available on the ps2
*the launch games on the xbox were, i thought, Very disappointing. Any games that are great on the xbox (eg soul calibur 2) are avilable on ps2 as well and are just as good.
*In hindsight, it would have been difficult to set the xbox up in my room because IT'S SLIGHTLY BIGGER THAN THE FLAT I'M LIVING IN.

I would consider xbox 2 equally with ps3 if maybe it had better games and wasn't so much of an eyesore...

halo is not just about running around at 1000mph. There is much more than that. I know there are some repetitive parts but it is just one fantastic game. If you want to do that then play quake, UT etc...

gt3 is over rated a bit - it plays well but does not look that good.

most games today are multi platform and if you took a look the graphics and sound on the xbox versions are usually at lot better (if the programmers put some effort in and not just a straight port) - listen to games like halo, Rainbow Six 3 etc in 5.1 Dolby Digital (in game unlike ps2) - they sound superb.

look at the upcoming 2004 games for the xbox to see what i mean about some great titles. The 2nd generation games will look absolutely stunning compared to ps2 games.

i think this has gone slightly off topic but if you want a gamecube, xbox or ps2 then thats your own choice lets not argue about which is best its been done to death already. I'll say no more.....

i do admit that if you pause a game and compare the screens -imho- the order of "graphics greatness" goes xbox-ps2-ngc
however, this is usually not noticeable in the middle of a game, this where gameplay is needed and of all three consoles (bro has ngc, niece has xbox) the ps2 and ngc have better games. So in answer to the original thread, if i_like_it _cube likes cartoony / multiplayer games, he should stick with ngc, whereas if he wants more single person / adult orientated games, i think he should stick with the playstation.
It was hulkhead bringing up the comparison in the first place hence going off topic - doesn't matter, apology accepted

I know this is off topic but...
  • GT3 is not more realistic than PGR2, physics wise PGR wipes the floor with it.
  • Halo most definitely is not pants.
  • Xbox may not have the same grand total of available games but IMO it does have more what I would call 'great' games.
  • Xbox launch titles were a whole order of magnitude greater than the garbage launched with the PS2.
  • I'm sorry to hear that. You must be very squashed.

You sound quite bitter you didn't get an Xbox, never mind.

Doesn't matter how many games the Xbox has, they're decent. Glad my Dad's got one. I'm gonna see if he'll share it with me and if I can trade any of my games for MK DD. Decided to keep my beloved Cube. Mods, please close. Thank you!

Not bitter (as I said I may consider the xbox2 instead of the ps3), just completely underwhelmed by the quality of software and gargantuan size of the hardware as c.f. the ps2...

Try a straight comparison of NFS Underground. PS2 vs Xbox. A very clear indication of which is the boss. I have a PS2 which gets a bit of use but to me, it's overpriced, outdated and the online facilities are a joke. I was dissapointed by the graphics in GT3 and it seems te PS2 has reached it's limits so I'm not expecting GT4 to look a whole lot better.

Also, am I the only one that prefers the look of the xbox? Sure it's a bit bigger but I always thought the PS2 looked a bit 'uncomfortable'.

Also have to agree with speedsix. The handling on GT3 left a lot to be desired. PGR2 has perfect lift off oversteer, perfect power understeer and the AC is a hoot once you get the hang of it.

Add in DD 5.1 which I'm sure is an under-rated bonus and the Xbox is the king, at a cheaper price.

Not bitter (as I said I may consider the xbox2 instead of the ps3), just completely underwhelmed by the quality of software and gargantuan size of the hardware as c.f. the ps2...
Moaning about the size of the xbox really is the most pathetic argument, it's like what an inch or so deeper and about the same taller???! Maye the fact there's a HD stuffed in there and the extra space needed for ventilation I bet the Xbox internals produce a damn sight more heat.. all that extra power comes at a cost you know!

Seriously though unless theres a PS2 exclusive game you simply must have I can't see any reason atall to choose it over an Xbox.

It's more expensive, the hardware is outdated, the online infrastructure is a joke, theres no DD as standard, only 2 joypad ports, its less reliable, it's noisier, it loads slower, theres no downloadable content, the analogue sticks are crap, no custom soundtracks, inferior multi-platform games, need memory cards, DVD playback (while 'free') is awful, it won't have anything to rival Halo 2, Fable or Doom 3.

..need I go on??
