Will there ever be anything Matrix related, ever again?

Does anyone know of any news or rumours regarding anything new from the Matrix i.e. films, games, TV shorts etc.?

I'm a massive fan of the Matrix trilogy, having just watched it again, and having finally gotten round to watching the Animatrix and all the new and original ideas some of those short films had, it got me wondering why there haven't been more Matrix games, not to mention Manga/Anime or even live action TV series, and of course more feature films. I've played and enjoyed Enter the Matrix and The Matrix: Path of Neo, then there's The Matrix online which I never got round to playing and which is now unfortunately dead. When you think about everything George Lucas has done with the Star Wars franchise, it surprises me that the Wachowski brothers haven't done nearly as much as they could with the excellent Matrix franchise.

I can see your point in some ways but MANY MANY people slate the second and third films. They are seen as being no where as good as the first. I personally like the sequals but not nearly as much as the first.

A TV series holds alot of potential I think. There is just so much that could be done with it both in and out of the Matrix with people who are and are not aware of it's exsistance (See "Kid's Story": Animatrix).

I would love to see some more Matrix, especially a new movie.

I watch all three movies every year without fail.

That's good to know I'm not the only one who loves them! Yes the second two aren't as good, but I still think they are great films, especially because they take the story in new directions. I'm a massive fan, although I left it a good few years before watching them again, and now I'm glad I did, and I'm especially glad I finally watched the Animatrix (loved "beyond", with the glitch in the Matrix).

So now I'm going to be play through Enter the Matrix again twice (Niobe and Ghost), then The Matrix Path of Neo. I'm also considering the possibility sometime in the future of working out where each Animatrix short film fits within the timeline of the film trilogy, then possibly watching the trilogy with each short in the correct place. Could be interesting.

But yeah, so much potential, not taken advantage of, particularly with Manga/Computerized/Live Action stuff.

Re: Will there ever be anything Matrix related, ever again?

I love the Matrix films and like Razor I watch them all on a regular basis (they are probably due another viewing to be honest).

They are great in HD and whilst the last 2 aren't quite upto the standard of the amazing 1st film, they are still superb and make for a great trilogy!

Would love to see another Matrix movie and I guess that they could create another Matrix world (kind of like a parallel matrix world).

wow lots of love for the sequels, i mean admittedly "reloaded" is a good sequel but i really cant see how even the most diehard fanboy can think "revolutions" was any good.

I found that the sequels get better every time I rewatch them. I like them more now than I did when i first saw them at the flicks.

Matrix is what I call a true story. ie its done so well and it is so believable it could be true.

Re: Will there ever be anything Matrix related, ever again?

I was initially quite disappointed with the sequels but watching them on DVD a few months after the cinema and as part of a trilogy, they've grown on me more and more. I'd like to see another movie but not if they can't maintain the standards.

Problem George had at least 3 decent movies first time around, then 3 not so good ones... Wachowski's had 1 decent movie and the rest are best forgotten, excluding the Animatrix which was actually quite good.

It would seem to me the franchise is pretty much dead, wait 10 years, and hollywood will get round to a re-boot.

And they'll probably call it The Matrix: Re-booted.

I think what killed off The Matrix was the declining quality of each film in the trilogy. I can understand why die-hard fans like them, but consider if Reloaded or The Matrix had never been released - Revolutions would have been absolutely slated. On the other hand, IMO most "good" trilogies are composed of films where each film can stand up on its own merits, independent of it being a component of a trilogy. The Matrix, on the other hand, grew gradually more full of pseudo-philosophical mumbo-jumbo that by the end, even those who paid close attention all the way through struggled to figure out what the hell they were on about.

I'd love to see another Matrix film, but back to the relatively straightforward storyline of the first film, and with more cutting-edge camera trickery.

I thought Reloaded was boring and crappy, and thought Revolutions was very, very good.

To each their own.

The endless Lucas slagging off irritates me far more. Its pretty much become the fashionable thing to slate him at every oppurtunity because fanboys are distraught that he won't give them their beloved theatricals (when I personally much prefer the Special Editions). Episode 1 was poor, but Episode 2 had some brilliant moments, and I thought Episode 3 was a fab film. I much prefer it to Empire Strikes Back which is a boring, tedious slog of a film, despite the adulation it gets.
