Re: What did gamers and geeks do....

Collecting stamps, anoraks and listening to gramophones.

The super cool geeks of that time had corduroy trousers, patches on their jackets and drank shots of Robinsons Lemon Barley neat.

My dad setup Quadraphonic sound, so the family could listen to Dark Side of the Moon swirling around the room. I must add i wasnt born then. Although i think he had a computer. So maybe this didnt count.

They had to move little lead men around on tables dreaming of the day that someone would invent a device to take away all of the calculations, tables of attack modifiers, morale etc., tape measures and weeks spent building landscapes and painting said lead men.

Since i was 8 i owned a computer of some sort though, it started out with a Vic20, then onto CPC464. Between those came the school cricket team.

Aye, basically all you had to do was go to a Games Workshop and you would see many would be gamers wandering aimlessly around looking at lead figures and rule books.....all looking for something .....better....to complete their lives .

Then...lo and behold, along came video games!

To be honest, before video games I played football, was out until all hours making dens etc. Then the Dragon 32 arrived and changed everything!

You or your folks must have had a few bob as I seem to recall that being a fairly expensive box for a home computer.

Also from memory it had a strange non centring joystick, which took some getting used to, compared to the likes of the Atari VCS stick or the icon that was the Competition Pro for the Spectrum.

Aye, my dad came home with it in the Autumn of 1982 and to be honest it was a pretty decent computer. The Joystick was pants though...

That said, it was analogue so in many respects it was ahead of it's time!

Re: What did gamers and geeks do....

Hey come on, the Dragon may not have been the most powerful computer around, but to say that it's equal in power to a Wii is doing it an injustice!

Re: What did gamers and geeks do....

They had a cup and a ball. The ball was attached to the cup by a piece of string so it wouldn't get lost. No wonder Space Invaders was so popular when it came along
