This thread deliberately gives a wide scope for replies and discussion, idea lifted from a few off topic posts in another unrelated thread again.

Here's some ideas :-

Which computer or console had the best packaging, this doesn't necessarily have to be the best looking box, but the most practical too, maybe it was the one that you could fit everything back into when you'd had enough of it, because let's face it there were a hell of a lot that simply would never go back the way they were removed.

Games have been packaged in many forms over the years, but which were your personal favourites, cassette cases, cardboard boxes, the special edition tin boxes and which were the most practical for storing when you had a huge collection.

I kind of liked the nintendo 64 packaging, the stuff went back lovely in the polystyrene and as an added bonus it held a couple of carts (without boxes) quite nicely too, the snes likewise had a great piece of polystyrene which was simple to repackage everything back into.

The nintendo gamecube on the other hand was an absolute nightmare to get back in, a leap forward in technology and a step backwards in box design.

I amassed a huge collection of commodore games nearly all of them on tape, though they weren't the best things in the world for storing as the box sizes varied considerably, from single cassette boxes to doubles and huge ridiculously sized cardboard affairs which only needed to be so big because of some stupid code wheel thing that was stuffed in the box.

Small boxes are always something of a novelty for me, the PSP ones were good, the US Nintendo DS were ok too, but before they came about I really used to like the old N.Gage boxes, strong, durable, an unusual size and looked really nice in the collection(although I must have been one of the few to buy them). Each one even contained a little card carrier to fit four games into, nice little touch.

So yep, the original N.Gage game boxes have been my favourite software packaging so far.
