Game Cube JAP/USA or not ???

Advice needed please,
I'm just about to order a NTSC Game Cube from Lik-Sang ready modded with the JAP/USA toggle switch at the back. But then got thinking what are the real advantages with this over say the standard PAL version using a Freeloader disc to play imported games. Or buying just the USA version??
I would like to take advantage through a Component lead of Prog Scan output from those import games that have it.
Weird thing is it say's you cant play PAL games but isnt the JAP stuff PAL encoded anyway after all they do share Region 2 with us................

Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Hi,
I would buy an English GC and get Freeloader, My Jap/USA Cube does play PAL games but only in Black and white because of the way Freeloader works and the output of the Import Cube. There is no advantage of getting the Jap one unless you want a Orange Cube like me . Plus it must be cheaper right?

Buzz...

Well its a trickey one now. Before I would have said NTSC/Jap cube for sure but with the latest Nintendo titles coming out on PAL first - if this continues then for most people there is no advantage, the only one is progressive scan support.

buzlightyear - what type of connection are you using to
hook up to your TV? Is it the one with the white, yellow and red connectors?

Regards,
Neil.

Prog Scan output, could this be achevied with a PAL box using Freeloader and a US copy of Metroid Prime, with the correct component or do only the NTSC box's allow this output.

Get the NTSC Cube.

Sure, some games have had PAL releases first but these are the exception rather than the rule.

You also open up some Jap games like Shigami No Shiro 2, WE6:FE, Mr Driller Drill Land, Naruto, Donkey Konga - all of which have no confirmed PAL release dates.

No contest IMHO.

Cheers for that, I'am sold on an NTSC cube, the Freeloader disc would just bug me - but you hit on another point "The Panasonic Q" I'm so close to ordering one of there but keep looking at the price and for a games console only (I don't need it to play DVD's) its a little expensive. Looks wise though there's noting to touch it I have to say.

Saying that sould I end up ordering one can a component lead be sourced to output Prog Scan from Comp'tbl games (same one as Game Cube maybe ) and are they available modded US/JAP ???

The 2 only reasons not to buy a UK cube, is as you say, freeloader will bug you, and also to shaft Nintendo Europe a bit for their way of marketing and supporting the product.

Buying the UK cube on the other hand will contribute to showing NOE they are still getting customers, and increased sales might convince them to shake up the way they operate a bit.

Dont forget if its too much trouble to bother with freeloader for your import machine you are going to miss out on a lot of bargainous PAL games now, and particularly in the future when it (probably)goes the way of the Dreamcast.

I've always championed buying the UK cube ever since I found out it also can do the imported Progressive scan games.
And Ive never been in a rush to import the latest game before UK release, too much of a backlog of unfinished ones, I can wait for the PAL release.
So far only Animal Crossing has warranted using Freeloader, are there any other worthy non PAL release games?
lets face it Progressive scan doesnt make Nintendos games any more fun, fun is what the machine is about.

Enjoy which ever machine you chose anyway, in your shoes I would get one of each seeing that lik-sang have dropped the prices of the NTSC's, and not bother with the lifestyle object that is the Q (admittedly this is the design they should have marketed for the Gamcube world wide, cool sells) anyhow you can turn your Gamecube into a lifestyle object using those Gold feet at lik-sang.

mr thx

Get your "Q" ordered , you will not regret it (its worth the extra just to have it sitting by your t.v) as for leads , you have lost me , i just play mine through the front av`s and it comes up a treat ! On my "Q" they have put the "switch" to convert it to jap/usa in the "power on" button , if you touch it it goes to jap if you leave your finger on for 1 second it comes up in english ! so my "Q" has no extra switchs/buttons and looks a whole lot neater ! fantastic !!!!

you're joking right? insane or extremely rich if you think £200 is worth it for the looks, the £200 extra would get you a Dolby PLII Amp, or almost an all in one 5.1 package or over half way towards a second hand projector.

Yeah wavebirds are handy, both imported because Im a cheapskate, saves my daughter pulling the cube on the floor also, the sofa is just that far away.

The Cube is armed with Gold Feet from Lik-Sang, turns it into a bit of a lifestyle object, a bit tossy, but needed to pack my order out a bit to make the postage worthwhile, as it turned out though the component cable extender I was after didnt work and not sure if they are going to replace it.

The other box is my PC, obviously not quite as popular as I thought but most e-tailers are selling the kits (Case, Motherboard, Fan) to do what you want with.
