Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

I am by no way a fanboy. I own a Wii and previously have had a PS3. Having watched all three conferences Microsoft easily walk away with the prize. They put alot of effort into the show and pulled out all the stops with the likes of the Beatles and Spielberg. No contest.

Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

so paying for spielberg to appear, and spout off that he/and microsoft will change the face of gaming forever, constitutes a great show..between him, and the two remaining beatles(who looked like they had just been dropped off in a taxi) was pointless..
paul mcartney and ringo didnt seem to have a clue as to what was going on, and as for ringo thinking he looked great as a "robot", says it all for me..

both shows were a bit "meh", IMO, and they really need to get someone who can do public speaking/ can actually play/show some interest in games, rather than the suits they use.

was more impressed with sony's prototype motion controller than microsofts mocked up showing.
they actually showed it working, in a game enviroment, rather than some bunch of actors in microsofts studio house with a "pretend" simulation.
notice microsofts still had lag when they did show it, whereas sony's has none..much rather prefer sony's offering for games, perfect for shooters/fighting games etc..
and down to the games themselves, plenty on each console, but with the extra psp offerings, and the likes of GOW3, and The Last guardian, i would say sony has a great year ahead.

Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

A definite score draw between MS and Sony for me. Games wise there was more that appealed from Sony with Agent, ModNation Racing, Last Guardian & GoW3 looking like certain day 1 purchases against Crackdown 2 and Alan Wake on the 360.

Features and services was a definite MS win with Facebook, Twitter & Last FM being very impressive additions.

The motion controllers both looked very interesting with Natal having the more impressive tech, yet I get the feeling that Sony will back up their effort with the better software.

Mario Galaxy 2 is also awesome news

A great E3 so far

Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

The MS eyetoy stuff looked pretty cool, dispite most of it being just videos. Alan Wake looks good also.

Some brilliant games coming to PSP (Metal Gear, GT, RE) and PS3 (Uncharted 2, FFXIV, GT5, GoW3, Modnation)though.

Probably a score draw overall but it will give my vote to sony as its all about the games for me.

Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

Microsoft won it for me followed very closely by Sony and Nintendo were, once again, a distant third.

I think Nintendo's problem has less to do with their first part efforts (which were much improved on last year) than the patchy third-party support. Whilst the 360 and PS3 are stuffed to the gills with quality third-party content, the Wii has little going for it other than masses of gimmicky shovelware with a mere sprinkling of decent titles.

Games wise, Sony were winners and it looks like the PS3 is finally coming into its stride with some brilliant looking titles though, unfortunately, it looks as though a lot of the heavy hitters won't be with us this year. This is why Microsoft took it for me; their technology display was the best - though I was very impressed with Sony's efforts as well - and, crucially, most of the big titles they showed will be with us before the end of the year.

Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

Sony
I think Sony have finally said something and meant it, they said 2009 will be the year that PlayStation makes it way back to the top and I believe with the new PSP Go!, Gran Turismo PSP, God of War 3, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Final Fantasy VII on the way this year, it well and truly will be Sony's year.

Next year, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIV and The Last Guardian, it could be all theirs again next year.

Nintendo

Nintendo surprised me by announcing two Mario games, I loved Super Mario Galaxy loads, but Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks like an expansion pack, not that I'm complaining but it just looks the same with Yoshi added. New Super Mario Bros Wii doesn't look too bad, but still it just looks like an expansion pack. Metroid: Other M certainly looks god and different.

Wii Motion Plus? Why didn't this come with the console 3 years ago?

Microsoft

Twitter and Sky TV is alright, but I have my iPhone and computer which can do the same thing.

Halo ODST, doesn't really appeal to me, I've got bored of the whole Halo thing mainly because Halo 3 was so over hyped for what it was (short single player, but decent online multiplayer). Also Halo: Reach, it's a prequel, and obviously because Master Chief can't be in any Halo's after number 3, I suppose they had to go backwards.

It's good to see that Xbox is getting a Metal Gear Solid game, it will be interesting to see how it goes without Snake. (Could anyone tell me if it's a 360 exclusive? A lot of people are saying it is, but a lot are saying it's also coming to the PS3 and PC)

No Alan Wake until next year, I'm not sure how intrigued by this game as I am, but I like what I've seen so far.

Left 4 Dead 2, I've still yet to play the original (because my 360 has got the RRoD at the moment) but I really want to play it and I like what I saw of the sequel so far.

Others
Assassin's Creed 2 already looks a whole lot better than the first, I just hope they try to sell it by making the most attractive member of the development team to talk about it again. (Jade Raymond is rather good looking though)

Rock Band: Beatles, I'm sure it's going to be snubbed by the youth of today but I can't wait. Ringo (or Richard, if he wants us to obey his demands in that insurance advert) basically said what any over 60 year old would of said, "the graphics are good".

DJ Hero, looked really confusing at the start but when I saw the way the controller worked (being a former club and mobile DJ, I know my way round a turntable) it looks simple enough. I'll stick to Guitar Hero: World Tour for now though.

Modern Warfare 2, it's another CoD game but not CoD, I did like the look of the snow mobile and rifle with a little screen attached, but nothing to get too excited about yet.

I know I've missed a lot of games out, not that I dislike them, it's just that I don't think I could write up anything about them as I'm not really interested in them, or forgot about them already.

[Rant]
What's with all the "motion controllers"?
They're all at it, I've already mentioned the Wii Motion Plus, but Xbox has the Project Natal, which looks scary IMO, especially with the scanning of the paper and skateboard in the debut video.
Sony hasn't even got a name for theirs but it's on the way.
[/Rant]

Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

I haven't been following E3 really, but the general jist I've got is that both of them are doing things with motion?

Why?

They are gimmicks in my opinion, and surely won't take anything away from the wii market.

Were there any big announcements from either microsoft or sony such as big games? not sequels though.

Cheers

Re: E3 Who came out on top this week

Microsoft - Great
Sony - Very Good
Nintendo - Only a faint pulse being recorded.

I care very little for motion control but natal is something else, not so much just it's gaming applications but for other areas of life. I'd be surprised if they manage to deliver what they showed for the 360 but it's exciting that the technolgy is near.
