Sure a few of us on here need glasses

Went by Asda other day looking for some new glasses, a stunning deal of any two sets of frames and lenses for £90. The great bargain comes from the fact that ANY lenses are included, I myself have to have the ridiculously expensive ultra thin special ones due to one eye been rubbish. These lenses alone at Specsavers cost £100+ a pair. They quoted me £220+ for one set of glasses. So not bad at all! The Asda sales lady was very excited about the deal.

Frame brands include Bench, Sean John, Phat Farm, Lotus (!), Nike, Speedo and quite a few others. Even Vivienne Westwood for the ladies So not just George specials

Hope this helps someone, in these current times, no one wants to have to fork out ridiculous money on glasses!

Edit: As a comparrison, this same deal for the top package at Asda was £165 last week!

This is an amazing deal - my lenses can cost around £200 for the ultra thin ones so wondering if that will be included. I do have doubts but here's hoping. Will be popping in on Wed/Thurs to look...

They're probably the ones I have. basically you can have any lenses they do. To quote the sales lady "almost too good to be true"

ooooo i might give this a whirl as i need ultra thin lenses too. have an astigmatism coupled with keratoconus in one eye :D

Picked them up today, six day turn around isn't too bad! All a-ok and lenses are very thin and what not

My hubby has crap eyes and currently has 1.9 glass lenses but he needs a second pair now

Mine appear to be 2.5mm ish. Might be worth ringing your local and find out if they do them. Basically sales woman told me (and all the promo material said) it's "2 for £90 with ANY lenses". So surely if they do stock 1.9's then they'd be in the offer? And if not...kick off and scream "false advertising"

Edit: I had to measure them myself (i.e no notes on the receipt or whatever).

Right, well I phoned up my local asda who said the lenses go up to 1.7's and to have them will cost me another £45 per pair ... so 2 pairs would cost £180 ... still a good price, but a little mis-leading really as there is nothing on their site about extras

That is a bit cheeky of them! Especially seen as it says on this http://www.asda-contactlenses.co.uk/alt_home.jsp "... Whatever your prescription!" Still, yes, £180 isn't too bad a price.

Geez - a deal like this is excellent and still people complain!


Its not mis-selling. They state they will give you "lenses to suit your prescription". So if you are around +- 2 you get 1.6, 2 to 7 you get 1.67 and 7+ you get 1.7. Upgrade to next level for £40.

They never said ANYWHERE "the thinnest lenses on earth" free. They will give you what they deem suitble for your prescription so that you dont end up with bottle glass.

If people complain they will drop the deal and start charging £100+ for lenses again.

This is a better deal than you will find anywhere else. Take it or leave it.

Hmm ... at the risk of getting a "Geez... and still people complain", I had trouble getting thin enough lenses.

But it was not just a cosmetic issue, they literally wouldn't sell me the glasses I wanted unless I upgraded to thinner lenses. And I'm not talking about the one or two glasses I wanted, I literally mean any that were wide enough for my face. I did not want a pair that made me resemble Benny Hill.

It is a good deal, but their whole selling point is that it is a "complete price" deal, no matter what your prescription. When this deal is being heavily advertised why should my cost nearly double from £90 to £170? There is no small print about it. All I'm asking is that they're more upfront about everything.

i got on fine with my order. i had a combined prescription of -7 and the sales person put in the ultra thin lense order on both sets and i paid £106 in total including insurance..... they did seem to be some confusion on other peoples orders though as they werent completely clued up on what orders were covered and which werent

But what does a "combined prescription"? And what were ultra thin lenses?


My worst eye is 6.75. They offered me 1.67 lenses.

They would only sell me the glasses if I upgraded to 1.7 lenses. A real case of "computer says no"

my prescription is -3.25 and -3.75.

im not sure what lenses i'll be getting but i guess i will know when i get them in about 2 weeks time..... (the frames i chose were pretty small)

i went for the deal as costco lenses for my prescription came in at £88 without frames

I'm sure they'll look great.

May be a stupid question but do they do eye tests in Asda opticians or do you need to know your prescription? If they do them, is it just walk in or will I need an appointment? Ta.

I know my local does eye tests. Best to make an appointment ahead of time, but they do have an A-Board in the Asda foyer listing appointments they have on the day. Seem to remember it was £15. I didn't have one there as I heard the tests are pretty short and not very thorough. Mind you, Spec Savers tests are getting ridiculously short as well! You can of course take your perscription which you obtain from any other optician, and demand cheap glasses at Asda

I guess it depends which asda you go to and how clued up they are. THe one I went to had a chart with prescription against lens thickness and what they could give. My OH got offered the 1.7 lenses for her +8 prescription. Go to a different asda. lol.

You will need an appointment for eye test as this offer has caused lots of people to book - our local asda now booked up until Thursday next week!

I had MAJOR probs getting this deal!!! Will keep it short and sweet though.

After 40 mins of trying to get staff help, my hubby and I chose the glasses he wanted, and after doing the forms and everything needed on the PC, we were told that my hubby couldn't have the glasses because his face was TOO SMALL!!! The staff member said it was in the terms and conditions of the offer! He then said he could have the glasses if we paid full price!!

I got straight up to Customer Services and waited fo over 30 minutes and demanded to see the store manager - apparently there was no one available - but they got me the manager of the opticians.

I asked her to see a copy of the terms and conditions of the offer and she said there were none - I explained what had happened and she couldn't understand it. She tried to back her staff member by saying they were new rules and they were teething problems so I said the magic words 'trading standards' and 'misadvertising' and then she was VERY nice.

She gave us free eye tests and then said there was no reason why we couldn't have what we wanted.

Now my husband has bad eyes and currently has 1.9 glass lenses which cost £150 per lens - and we were going to pay to upgrade so was expecting to pay at least £600 for the lenses plus the price of the frames on offer. They were going through the lense options on their screens and found the 1.9's. There MUST have been an error on there because we got 2 designer pairs with 1.9 glass lenses, one pair also with reactive light lenses on ... all for just £160!!!!!!

I wasn't saying anything so paid for them in full.

I am still writing to the head office to complain about these 'terms and conditions' as they don't advertise that they have any, and can't provide a copy.

It took us 3 whole hours to sort out these issues, but for £160, I am not going to moan too hard!!
