Vista Hibernate problem...help!

I have Vista Home Premium running on an Acer Travelmate 7510. The problem I am having is that when I put it into hibernate, it keeps switching itself back on, sometimes after just a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours. This happens whether the lid is up or down, and it's really annoying. I have googled the problem but I cannot find anything specific about the issue other than to disable WOL (wake on Lan) in the bios. I went into my bios but there was no such option? I have also disabled the option of installing updates automatically, to no avail. Has anyone else suffered this problem?

Mike

Re: Vista Hibernate problem...help!

had that same problem ( along with many other problems) when i first installed vista.

I was about to go out... Switched to sleep... Wait for it... then BAM woke up again... So i switched it off..

My solution as is with most computer problems is reformat !!! cos i'm hardcore and have unattended disks so its an overnight job :D

Re: Vista Hibernate problem...help!

Vista is far more "vocal" about power events. Look at the Event Logs as follows:
1) Click on the Start button
2) Go to Control Panel
3) Click on System and Maintenance
4) Scroll down to Administrative Tools at the bottom and select View event logs.
The Event Viewer should open (after a UAC prompt).

In the panel at the left, expand Windows Logs and then select System. Around the time that the system wakes you should see an event from "Power-Troubleshooter". In there you can see the "Wake source". It may indicate a particular piece of hardware - e.g. a USB mouse or network adapter.

If it says "Unknown", it is possible that the wake source was either by pressing the power button, or from a scheduled task. Unless you've got amnesia you will know if you've pressed the power button, which points to a scheduled task, or perhaps an unknown event.

So, look at Scheduled Tasks. Repeat Steps 1-3 above but this time selected Scheduled Tasks from within Administrative Tools. The lower pane will show scheduled tasks which are currently enabled. One of them may be set to run at the time your system woke, and if it was, you will probably find that the option to Wake the computer is enabled.

Re: Vista Hibernate problem...help!

Thanks! Did all the above but could not find Power Troubleshooter. Changed loads of other settings and it has made no difference. It still wakes up whenever! It's doing my head in.

Re: Vista Hibernate problem...help!

Update..Found "power troubleshooter" and found over 200 instances where my HID compliant mouse (wireless) has woken the computer. This is even though I have set the mouse not to wake from hibernation? Anyway, I think it works! I have disconnected the wireless mouse and It has stayed off. Thanks again for your help. I just need a new mouse now
