help please - modem/router settings after changing ISPs

I have changed my isp and entered the new account details into my d-link DSL 604+ modem but can not can when i try to enter internet explorer i get a"This page can not be displayed" message. I have tried using the Speedouch modem that came with the ISP packae and that works fine so i know its not an ISP issue.

The Dlink has a Diagnose function which tests ASDL line, PPP Test, ISP Connection test & DNS test - all of these pass

Im sure I have missed something simple but can not for the life of me find it - any suggestions most welcomed

If it makes a difference the ISP is Tiscali

Re: help please - modem/router settings after changing ISPs

Hi,

Have you checked out this page on the Tiscali site:

http://tinyurl.com/yzfd8p

I recently got a D-Link G604T router and I'm sure I had a similar problem untill I changed one of the settings on the "Setup", "Connection1" page, unfortunately, I can't remember which one it was!

Regards

Re: help please - modem/router settings after changing ISPs

thanks, ive had a read through and my settings with the router seem to be correct hence passing the test facility with dlingk - I think the issue must be a setting on the pc rather than the router as it does not appear to try to dial the dlink when connectin - it just says "NO DIAL TONE"

I have now uninstalled the tiscali modem to avoid any confusÍon with 2 routers being attached but still no joy

Re: help please - modem/router settings after changing ISPs

Hmm... I'm not sure about this "No dial tone" warning, where do you see this?

I'm no great expert in this but I think that when the DLink is powered on it goes through a similar connection process to your speedtouch modem but this is effectivey all in the background and I'm not sure if any connection failures get reported back through Windows.

What does the status light on the DLink show - I think flashing indicates all OK.

Something else to check - start Internet Explorer and click Tools> Internet options> Connections. Make sure that "Never dial a connection" is checked. I'm just wondering if the original connection from your speedtouch modem is still the default connection.

Best Regards
