End of tether -Anyone willing to help set up my 605 -S.Yorks, willing to pay ££:grin

As per title.

I'm a begineer and really stuck.

I've bought an Onkyo 605 and a a set of Kef 1005 eggs from richer sounds but i can't get anything hooked up properly....need big help, quick over the weekend if poss.

I have an Oppo 981HD DVD, SKY HD and XBOX 360 HD version (so 3 lots of HDMI to sort out, though i do have a Joytech 1 in 3 out, or is that the other way round 3 in 1 out confused.

I also have a wii (via componenent).

All this is going into a Pioneer 507XD, connection wise a pig in its own right for getting hooked up (well seems to be for me!!!!).

Willing to pay someone to sort this out for me. I go back into hospital monday (geniune) and the missus wants the cabling tidied up once and for all before then. I'd also consider profesional isf cal and set up if anyone's in the area

where abouts are you ?

Im up in Wakefield (West Yorkshire) - I'm no proffesional but I've never really had any problems.

But before you get to the stage of inviting strangers to your home, tell us what you have got exactly but so far it seems quite simple

1 X HDMI lead from DVD in to amp socket HDMI 1
1 X HDMI lead from SKY HD in to amp socket HDMI 2
1 X HDMI plugged in to HDMI out that goes to your TV

The amp will use the HDMI out to output all of the above to the screen

As for the Xbox and the Wii - can you advise what TV you have

I have something similar, using the 705, but same concept applies.

You have 3 HDMI products needing to be connected (SKY HD, DVD and XBox 360)

2 HDMI sockets on 605
2 HDMI sockets on plasma

I would suggest and this what I have done is: -

DVD via HDMI to 605
XBox 360 via HDMI to 605
You then need an HDMI lead from 605 to the plasma.

I would then connect

Sky HD via HDMI to plasma.

For DD via Sky Hd you need to connect an optical cable from Sky HD to 605.

The reason I have connected Sky in this manner, is so that you do not need the 605 on when watching Sky, but if you need DD you can use it.

The Wii can be connected directly to plasma or via the 605 via component. My suggestion would be to connect the Wii to the 605 via component and analogue audio. You can then use the 605 to 'see' the Wii through the HDMI connection. I did find a difference in the picture (under the 705 users thread), but to be honest, its not that bad and at least this way is easier for you to get it up and running.

After that make sure you take a note of what is connected to what jacks on the 605, so that when you setup the 605 you know what is plugged in where

Good Luck

Edit - wiring it this way will mean you don't need the Joytech HDMI box.

Hi Folks
I went back to the start, dismantled everything and followed davidm's directions exactly (hence my delay today in replying and thanking you... bit busy )
I've put it all back together and i've pretty much got most things up and running. I've even got a spare 3M HD cable and a HDMI switchbox to sell now

Ooooooopppps sorry lads, spoke to soon my mistake.

I'm sure its dead easy but i connected the Wii to the plasma by component and now i get no sound from it at all
Mitsiturbo, Davidm any ideas fellas I don't know if it's a menu setting problem in the onkyo, in the wiii or a cable problem in the wrong place-
or something else completely different.

Re: End of tether -Anyone willing to help set up my 605 -S.Yorks, willing to pay ££:g

You should have 5 cables on the Wii component lead. Red, Green, Blue (video) and Red and White for audio. If you have the component lead connected to the plasma then you need to decide if you want the sound coming from the plasma or the amp. If you want it coming from the TV then ensure that the audio leads are plugged into the TV aswell. If you want it from the amp then you will have to connect the red and white audio leads to one of the inputs. I doubt you will be able to use the Game/TV input as this will probably be setup for the 360. You will probably need to go for VCR or something like that. Doing it this way means you need the amp on for the audio.

The other option of course, is to connect the Wii via component through the amp which will then be passed through the HDMI (upscaled to 720p aswell), advantage of this is that selecting the input on the amp will switch the audio and video for you. However, some people dont like the image that you get using this method!

Hope this helps...

Re: End of tether -Anyone willing to help set up my 605 -S.Yorks, willing to pay ££:g

Based on the fact you have the Wii connected to the 605 -

I have the Wii assigned to the AUX connection (as it was free) for the component connection and I have the audio assigned to CD (as it was free).

Press the AUX button on the remote for video and CD button for sound. Just press one after the other and you should have picture through the HDMI (TV set for the HDMI Input) and sound through the 605.

I am not sure what else you have connected, but you need to find a Video input not assigned. They are listed in the setup menu. And you need an analogue 'in' that you are not using, and again use the same concept - press the video assignment first then the audio.

It doesn't need to be AUX/CD any free inputs will work.

Good Luck
