so i'm at CeBit in Germany, and i've come across some interesting finds, i'm trying to post them in the relevant forums but this one i never heard of before today so i figured this was the best place for it... WCGLED TV? anyone? made by samsung?

i may have missed it somewhere else on avforums, but this just blew me away so i had to post.

the colour reproducion of the screen is spectacular, the contrast is unreal, and the photo of the cherries is actually a macro shot of the screen- can you see any pixels in there???

I'd suppose that that is a normal LED backlit LCD display. The WCG stands for 'wide color gamut' and the term has been used with some special CCFL backlights by Sony. The difference was the spectrum of that backlight which enabled the wider gamut than usual. In this case, I think they have adopted the term WCG to LED backlighting since LED's spectrum also enables a wider gamut than normal CCFL.

Eventhough it aint a completely new technology, it is one of the more important improvements for the upcoming LCD-TVs. The LED backlight improves the colors, uniformity and contrast so it sure is worth waiting for
