SED News/Rumour

Not sure if this should be classified as news or rumour, but in this month's edition of computer shopper a rep of Toshiba in the UK is quoted as saying that SED TV's will be on sale in the UK by H2 2007 in 36" and either 50" or 55" sizes.

Better start saving...

Re: SED News/Rumour

Anybody have any good links about SED technology ? I'm in mid-saving mode at the moment and a bit miffed that Loewe are holding their Lcds back till after Christmas , so, having heard a little bit about this I could persuade myself to hang on ( specially as I'm getting a Tosh Hd-Dvd player anyway )

I'll believe that when I see it. My prediction remains H2 2008 before they are available and even faintly affordable in this country.

Re: SED News/Rumour

The more recent statements from Toshiba & Canon have indicated that the first commercial SED TVs will be the released in Japan in Q4 2007. They have said that they see the Beijing Olympics (August 2008) as the major marketing opportunity for SED TVs so presumably these products will become available in the US, Europe and other markets in the run-up to the games. Oh and they have never said that they will build any size other than 55in, at least initially.

I am pretty sure that Toshiba announced at Cedia the 55" with a 1080 res but also a 37" in 720 lines.

Re: SED News/Rumour

I don't think SED was demonstrated at CEDIA 2006. I think the last outings were at CEATEC and FPD International in Japan in October. These were the first shows where 55in 1080p prototypes have been demonstrated; previously we've only seen 36in 720p models that will bear little relation to the production TVs.

At CEATEC Keiichiro Mori, chief specialist at Toshiba’s SED Project Team, confirmed that Toshiba and Canon plan to mass produce only 55-inch SED screens initially.

You're right CEATEC.
I'll try to find the article talking about 55" and 37" 720p (or 36")
