don't get me wrong, you are making very valid points and pining out the truths and inconsistencies with tv technologies
However, i have bought a plasma based on the praise from this site and also down to personal experiences with comparing lcd, led and plasma side by side and found that plasma gave out a far more natural image.
This may well be my opinion and personal tasting yes, but so many other sites out there technically claim that plasma is still the better technology out there compared against the others in this moment in time.
There is no doubt that plasma has it's flaws, (i notice green flicker in certain picture presets around fast moving objects edges) but so many of it's traditional flaws like retension, dot crawl and some colour banding etc have largely been overcome.
I've got a kuro and no lcd so far even comes close to the sheer picture reproduction that gas god is capable of.
In some cases (possibly in the very near future) led lcd's may well better the best plasma's and i've got a feeling that due to plasma's lower popularity and respect than lcd (according to the average consumer man on the street), there may not be any plasma panels in the next few years, which would be a total shame.
In any ways however, I believe that the only true successor to a decent plasma wouldn't be any lcd tech of any kind, but as i've aforementioned, definitely oled.
It combines the pixel sharpness and brightness of lcd and everything else good, which is from plasma... (sorry, but plasma is naturally a better technology than lcd when it comes to sheer picture).
P.s. 'excluding the very, very minor plasma flaws' (which hardly exist anymore!)
Another thing, i personally tested out some really good source material at good average and low brightness settings being blu-ray films, normal dvd's and some freeview channels.
was deciding between a late 08 philips 42in led lux and a pioneer krp-500a and after the comparison the krp just stood out in a league of it's own.
There's a reason why plasma is still the top gun.
compared these tv's at the moonshine home cinema centre in glasgow.
It's good having a 500a, especially after owning an early 90's panasonic quintrix crt for almost 20 years!
Don't feel left out or offended by any means though, i totally agree with the advice you gave about the tech's and lcd in many ways is just as good (so you claim).
For me though, i think lcd tv's make more sense in the smaller screen sizes (like below 46in).
It could just be me though
You're the expert after all
