Did you get an AV gadget this Xmas?

Did you get some AV hardware? Everything from a new mobile phone, mp3, camera, ICE, computer (or parts/peripherals) to amplifier, speakers, TV, projector etc. qualify.
The kids got games and I got Blu-rays (which don't qualify) but I bought myself an IP camera and network kit, so I do qualify
What did you get?

Re: Did you get an AV gadget this Xmas?

I bought myself a projector, but i ran out of paper so couldn't wrap it.

It's perhaps not in the Christmas spirit, but i'm afraid i don't trust family members to buy me gadgets.

Sanyo PLV Z2000.

Basically good reviews, a great powerbuy set up by members of these forums and the possibility of prices going up in the new year all forced my hand. The model below it was actually more expensive (thanks to the powerbuy) and the model replacing it would have been out of my price range so i grabbed the chance to pick one up before stock levels were down to zero as they've stopped being made.

I bought a Poineer VSX LX51 with the money gifted to me from richer sounds today get it on Tuesday. My mate has one and i was well impressed with it and was in my budget (well nearly) Read some reviews on it and its main rivals and deceided to go with the 51. Its my first real amp/ system so their will be quite a bit of tinkering and advice being sought from the guru's on here.

P.S. I was also given a set of ms 302 avants to round my set up to 7.1 as i have the space for it even if its not that many soundtracks using it the now.

I bought a BD-RE drive and a stack of blank discs, and a copy of Blu-ray Demystified so I can figure out authoring. Having even 25gb feels amazing to me after having to smash things down into 8gb!

No gadgets for Xmas but I have persuaded SWMBO that we need to audition a new blu ray player in January.

Re: Did you get an AV gadget this Xmas?

Needed to vote in three options,

treated myself to a cheap Dab radio for out in the shed
was bought, by SWMBO, a new Laptop
bought SWMBO a Pure Highway In-car Dab radio converter

voted for Was Bought as it was the most expensive.

Re: Did you get an AV gadget this Xmas?

REALLY pushed the boat out and bought myslef (and the Mrs) a Pioneer PDP-LX5090 with table-top stand and undermount speaker from my local Sevenoaks. Got it Saturday and had less than 8 hours to play with it. So far, it's breath taking!

I also could have voted twice because I bought my Mum (who hasn't got a clue about gadgets, etc) a Panasonic DMR-768EBK from Richer Sounds. She's absolutely bold over. Installing it on Christmas Day, she already started telling us her great ideas using it in the coming days and beyond! Jack pot

Re: Did you get an AV gadget this Xmas?

The only item that I was able to finally pay for, was the Denon 3930 at the end of October / beginning of Nov, but had problems with the player sticking occasionally on CD playback, and this was returned to the retailer for repairs.

December 19th aprox returned so still waiting.
January 10th Denon DVD 3930 returned from service, with a new DVD drive and updated firmware upgrade installed.....The results are great!....I am happy.

I have also made it clear that if the Denon service engineer returns the player and the same thing happens then I will not accept this and will demand a different model.

My gripe is this: if the player had cost aprox £30 then I would expect things to go wrong, but not with a player that retails for £1100 (although I haggled and only paid £895 aprox.

My next purchase will be 2009 which will be lexicon MC12B with (3 quarters paid for) and the retailer will be throwing in a Denon BDP 3800 with on board HD sound decoders, which is ideal for me to connect to the back of the Lex, and an HDMI switcher box (this being because I have expressed my displeasure) of not being happy with LEXICON not upgrading this model to the HD version.

Only with the LEXICON trade in offer, of which you would lose about £4000 which is totally unexceptable ''no matter what a persons income is'' This product has been purchased with a lot of hard work and up to 80hrs a week.

Next product will come in the shape of Pioneers 609 / KRP 60 model.

Enyed reading about other purchases and all the best.

Regards

Mark

Re: Did you get an AV gadget this Xmas?

My wife and I treated ourselves to an iPod Touch 32gb, as a pressie from our 2 year old daughter. Also my in-laws bought me a Harmony One which I bought from AVF.

Then we finally conceded and bought a new 2.4ghz MacBook which should be arriving today!

Life is not fair, as fast as I can take one thing from the "wish list" another two get added!!

Ian.

I treated myself to a optoma hd65 projector and 3;2 hdmi splitter to prevent ungainly HDMi plugging and unplugging. With all the xmas blockbusters on sky HD its been amazing. I echo Mabo- you really have to buy your own gadgets.
My wife did get me an amazing shiatzu chair massager though

Re: Did you get an AV gadget this Xmas?

Yes

I bought something for myself a new Sony RDR-HXD870 multi region which was £160.

So far its been quite good and plays both US and UK DVDs.
This also does DIVX playback quite well.

Also my parents bought a Toshiba 37AV555 for under £400 for the front room.

My mate got a wii to.

Missus bought me an I1-LT calibration sensor for setting up my TV and projector properly. Trouble is I've been down with the 'flu since Christmas day and only just getting round to trying it...haven't even felt like watching anything on my PJ.

Oh yes - I got half an Alpine head-unit that is an iPod controller, it shows album art, artist, album etc. and some awesome Focal component speakers (front) and single unit upgrades (back) all supplied and fitted into my Scooby but I still didn't have an iPod. Bought one yesterday, it arrived this morning, have spent the day at work with my laptop running getting all my stuff into it
