Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

We have slowly started doing hardware reviews. You can read them here.
Based on the quality of the most recent reviews, would you like us to do more?

Re: Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

definately, especially on "affordable" stuff, ie. not high end stuff that few people can afford, hardware for the masses, budget to mid range stuff to appeal to the majority of forum users, instead of reading about stuff that i couldn't afford no matter how much i really wanted it. nothing wrong with high end reviews, but it seems hard to find decent reviews of affordable stuff that cover a bit more detail than weight/finish/tech specs and price

Totally agree, just include the occasional bit of hardware porn...

Re: Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

We should expect thorough, objective, unbiased reviews which we can trust. There are too few of these around at the moment.

Re: Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

If your reviews are as in-depth as that which you did for the JVC HD-1, then of course. My only concern is, assuming all your resources being equal, if the number of reviews goes up, won't the quality suffer?

We will be basing our reviews on equipment that is important to the majority of users on these forums. As we want the quality to remain high and to spend time living with products to give us a real feeling of an end user, we will be very selective on the amount of equipment we can take for review.

I said no, I guess its because I dont really listen to many hardware reviews and just cant see myself paying to much attention to them, not my thing really but can definetely see why almost everyone would want them there.

No, but I'm sure that Phil is happy you enjoyed his review - I do know he spent a long time with that PJ and you could almost hear him cry the day he had to return it

Re: Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

With reviews of that calibre there's simply nothing to debate. Of course they're valuable, of course we appreciate them. However if we take that the quality is high and that they are being written by enthusiasts for enthusiasts may I make a suggestion on the sort of reviews that I would find valuable. And that is comparisons.

When you read the threads (and i suspect many of us spend far too long doing that) recurrent topics are product a versus product b. We really do want to know if the Pioneer 427xd is better than the Panasonic Th70Px or the Oppo 981 better than the Denon 1930. I don't think that there is any magazine that explores the comparative merits of products in the careful, detailed and accurate way that Phil Hinton did his JVC review.

Re: Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

With AVPlay reviews becoming one of my favourites ( particularly Chris's enthusiastic old horror title reviews ) and judging by Phil's excellent review on the JVC projector I'm voting a big loud YES PLEASE!

Re: Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

10 people say no, why?, this is the best site of it's kind, has been absolutely valuable to me, and the reviews, even if just to dream are an integral part of my enjoyment...keep up the hardwork.

Re: Would you like to see more AV Forums hardware reviews?

I have to say , While there are personal aspects to reviewing, ( impossible to remove) , I would think the reviews would be a lot more balanced than some mags whose tune changes according to incubent editor

To those who say no, just dont download the podcast just as you would quickly go past the magazines at WH Smith
