None. I only buy a paper if there is a sports story or article I really want to read.

As for news I get it from TV and the internet.

The Independent for me, a very good al round paper - only criticism is the sports pages, however the rest of the papers articles and analysis on world events is so good I can forgive that!

I work for a subsidiary of one of the major publishers, so get all my newspapers for free. To be honest, though, I rarely bother picking one up at work

I read the Daily Mail every day (except Sunday) though they do print a lot of pointless stories. They have also recently moved into Mirror territory with truly laborious-to-read stories about, for example, Jennifer Aniston being photographed with, SHOCK, a wedgie! There are 6 billion people in the world, why would I care about one of them having a wedgie? It happens to all of us all the time. At least I think it does.

Then they'll have a tiny eighth-of-a-page box about an earthquake killing 1000 people. Another thing about the Mail is they are absolutely adament that violent films and video games are responsible for all the horror in the world. Finally, and for me the worst of them all (but all papers do it), they print stories from "expert psychologists" almost every day which feature raving generalisations such as chicken owners being better lovers or something like that. In fact the Daily Mail is single-handedly responsible for my utter disregard of the psychology academic community. If these kinds of stupendous surveys are all psychologists get up to then they'll get no respect from me.

Rant over.

Mail moan

I've read the Mail since 91 and over the years i thought it was one of the best newspapers around, not to heavy and not to light. But i agree totally with what MarkwPage says about these stupid stories about so called celebs. Who gives a dam? i don't if i did i would read a red top. If reading about so called ' celeb stories ' isn't bad enough then there are 2 days worth a women's tat in the middle of the paper, i know that women read newspapers as well but come on there are enough women's magazines around that cover all the topics possible that they want to now about.

The Guardian on Saturday and the Independent on Sunday, being a not-so-trendy liberal lefty type. The Guardian has the best entertainment guide and the IOS the best culture/arts reviews (IMO).

The Metro is a good enough read on the daily commute during the week, and is handily free...

I do dabble with The Times on occasion. However, The Daily Express has been known to have a few classic stories before that weren't in other papers. The one that springs to mind is "Gorilla Caught Waiting For Bus", the accompanying picture of which was the sole reason I bought the paper on that particular day. I'm sure anybody would rather read about that than some celeb story.

Interesting poll, not sure all of the listed publications classify as newspapers though!

My personal opinion re newspapers has been controversial in the past.
I glance at our local paper while on the loo, but that's about it.
My problem with newspapers is that they are biassed.
I'm not interested in the opinions of the editor.
I also object to the intrusion into peoples' privacy.
And I mostly object to lies sold as news.
So I don't condone that kind of behaviour by giving them my money.
I get my news from the TV which I'm lucky enough to have on when I want it.
And at least they have some kind of responsibility to be less biassed.
Even though I realise that the news in general is biassed towards our way of life (i.e. our belief systems).
I know we have people from all sections of society, but the poll may reveal some interesting choices in what kind of reading AV Forums members prefer.

Re: Which newspaper(s) do you read?

Saturday Guardian
A bit to the left with overly green tones - but I would say the most "factual" paper out there - plus you get great sections on Sat, inc Money, Family and The Guide
