Office 97 uninstalled; still grabs my email from resize.

I had Office 97 on my XP service pack3 PC. I uninstalled a year ago, leaving this infuriating problem.
Ordinary emails work in OE 6.

when I go to MY Pictures and select >email this file..resize>I do and "Microsoft Exchange Setup Wizard" comes up
saying "select the infomation service that you what to use with Microsoft exchange"
citing MS Mail ; which I have uninstalled and never used.
small scream!

I think I understand from reading MS support, there is a utility to remove files and registry entries left there which are causing this problem.

Here are the articles I read Utility to completely remove remaining Office 97 files and registry entries
OFF97: How to Completely Remove Microsoft Office 97 on Windows XP, Windows Me, and Windows 2000

I have read and read and understand I have to check have right one for XP.
I cannot find in MS Download site;what ever I search for

Could a kind expert look and see it its there?
Am I om right track?
Dare I do it? if its there. Help please.

Apoligises--I can't even get a live web address up .I went via google if you type OFF97 254250 the page comes up.
thanks

MS office97 removal wizard, didn't work

Hi again,

I ran the MS office removal tool, which removed 10,055,680 bytes of office bits left, printed it out for reference.
all looked super.
Went to do email and resize' well the exchange wizard was still there and I could not resize simply as I should be able to do..
So I ran a search for Microsoft office 97 on My PC; came up saying nothing there.
so I have no idea what to do next.
I do not download freeware off internet and have a very ordinary set of progs I use.

I am dissapointed a fix from MS didn't work; and if they can't fix what they created, what !!

any one who can think of anything else that could be causing this would be appreicated.

so what are you now using for your email client if you are no longer using outlook?

what exactly do you mean by resizing?

my emailing photo; more info

Sorry for not being totally clear. Appreciate your help.

My Ordinary HMTL emails work perfectly in OE 6. I can attach documents ok.

If I resize a photograph in Picasa and create another Picasa folder for it to go in, I can attach this small photo and send it as an attachments in my OE6.
This is a very long way round to do this.

What I mean is; in Windows XP in the "My Pictures" folder I should be able to select a photograph, and then click on the left menu to send by email. Windows then gives me a box asking if I want to resize the photograph which I click "Yes".

When I click "yes", "Microsoft Exchange Setup Wizard" pops up
saying "select the infomation service that you what to use with Microsoft exchange"

The option highlighted is MS Mail. As I have now "theoretically run the removal tool to remove any residual bits of Office97 left in the registry (3 page print out of bits removed) I thought my problem was solved.

When I go back to check my MS Pictures folder expecting it to work as it should, the MS exchange box still comes up and grabs it and I can get no further.

I ran a search on all my Pc for any Microsoft Office97 components, and it came up blank.

So it's? something else, or the removal tool didn't work fully.

I just read and follow the instructions where/if I think they are logical.

Any input would be welcome before I scream so loud that you will hear me!

Regards,

Shalimar

go into control panel and double click internet options. in the programs tab is outlook express selected in the email drop down. if not select it

re internet progs. its strange; nearly there

nearly there with your help.

Followed your instructions Via control>int options >programs;

"E mail" the box empty;when you drop box down there is "windows live mail"
BUT no "Outlook express" ???
How do I get OE in here??? in control> the program part to get OE in there.
did not know how to change in here;

so went and opened Outlook Express
under tools>Options>Connection says
" Outlook Express shares Internet connection with Internet Explorer".

Under "General" says its the default mail handler [ [is this why my email works Ok? except for the resize part]]

How do I install /get OE in the Program>Email and Live mail out.?

So Near Success
thanks in anticipation

Ok, so let's try re-registering oe

Click Start, Run and type the following commands one by one:

"%programfiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll"

This restores Outlook Express under the email clients list. The above-said registry key is now recreated. The second command registers the DLL Path for Outlook Express, as it's a requirement for MAPI calls.

Talking Success;YES

Dear Graham,

Absolutely Spot On

Did exactly as you said;--
and can now resize in Pictures and Picasa; so easy.

[For anyone following this, the quotes " are part of the command]

I'd love to get rid of that pesky nasty Mail out of my dropdown email box in Internet options> programs.but better not be to cocky.

You are fantastic, great and so Kind. I've had that problem for 2 years or more. MS Questions still asking for Info. I say no more!

Regards Shalimar

glad you got it sorted!

the quotes are required because there is a space in the filename, otherwise it would treat the rest of the filename as a parameter
