I do not know if this is possible but what i am trying to find out is as i type data say into cell a1 can i hide each character as i type the data in. For example if i type Avforums could it hide each character to leave me with cell a1 looking like this xxxxxxxx. Cheers in advance. It must hide each character as i input it.

I cant help you do that - not sure its possible to be honest but I would say - which version of excel are you using might be worth mentioning and more importantly why on earth would you need password like typing protection on a spreadsheet, which will allow anyone to read it if they click on the cell ?

Thanks for the reply, Why i need like password typing is, i am trying to do a secret unique bid to raise money for our local air ambulance. The problem i have the computer screen is visible to everyone as we use it for advertising. I was hoping to use the computer for people to put their unique bid into then run a macro and store that information into a hidden worksheet so nobody would be able to see it. I am using office 2003. Hope this helps. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cannot think of a way to do it easily but here is a work round.

1. Hide the formula bar.

2. Format necessary cells, background white & text white for example.

3. Password protect the sheet.

4. Un protect the sheet and change text colour to black when you are alone to view.

A command button on sheet 1 generates a VBA Form. The user enters his name and then clicks on the numbers in turn until the submit bid button is pressed. The results are written to worksheet bids with Cell D2 keeping track of the next free row. Currently it's only written to handle whole pounds but pence could be added if you want. You can hide the bids worksheet

It lacks a few bells and whistles like a facility to delete a numeric entry but simply closing the form works and lets the user start again
