Removing Spell and Grammer Check from Office

Myson has a mild disibility which affects his fine motor control. It's not a huge problem but he struggles with handwriting. Because of this he is allowed to use a laptop for his GCSE exams but any spell and grammer check functions must be disabled.

Despite asking and being promised advice from the school, LEA and exam boards I still haven't received any advice, clarification or instruction.

He has done some exams already and the school suggested we just turn-off the functions which we did and those exams went well.

But I was a bit bemused by the suggestion because he could simply turn them on again (although he didn't). Those exams were run by the school but the next ones will have independent adjudicators so I want to make sure there is nothing that can be questioned.

So is there a way to disable the spell and grammer - by removing files for example?

I'd appreciate any advice you could give.

Many thanks,

Nigel

Indeed a bit bemusing.

It depends on the version of MS Word.

But the path should be similar. Tools/word options/proofing and de select "check/mark as I type".

That disables the auto prompting.

Next in v2003 you could remove the icon from the menu bar in tools/word options/customize, but AFAIK this cannot be removed from the ribbon menu in 2007.

Still, I suppose disabling the auto prompt is the main thing and it shows you intentions are correct.

Don't they provide the laptop for exams? My son was diagnosed with dyslexia and although he took in his own laptop for lessons, in external exams he was given access to a school laptop in a separate room.

AFAIK you can't disable this outright. Best you can do is disable auto-check and check as I type.
