Office 2007 vs 2010

I've been looking for a comparison chart between Office 2007 and 2010 and can't seem to find one. From what I’ve read it seems like Office 2010 has very few new features, so what’s the point??

I'm in the process of buying licences, I'm not 100% sure that Microsofts Software Assurance is worth the extra cash!!

Go for Office 07. Office 2010 isn't due to be released until mid-Match

Microsoft Office 2010 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
then check out 'features'.

there are actually very few features that you could not do before, however having used it, it is a much slicker program than 07. however it is not out just yet.

I've purchased 2007 with software assurance, this allows me to upgrade as soon as 2010 is officially out at no extra charge.

Software assurance cost me £160.00 per user and it last 2 years, so if 2011 comes out within that time frame I'll get that too!! Not that thats likely to happen knowing Microsoft release schedule.

I believe Office 2010 is currently due June 2010.

It's probably not the sort of forum to rave about such things but there's a free Add-in for Excel 2010 called PowerPivot, which allows you to build data cubes and play around with very large amounts of data (millions of records) in memory. It's a bit like SQL Server Analysis Services. I can't believe Microsoft are giving it away for free - must be to maintain prevalence of Excel or promote SQL Server (to which it can connect).

PowerPivot | Home

Solid (from personal experience) betas available of Excel 2010 and PowerPivot.

No, I'm not connected to Microsoft. Will not be rushing to upgrade my Home PC.

Have got the 2010 professional plus via company home user scheme. £8 quids only, good value.

In general it is an enhanced product than 2007. You would definitely find a better user experience.

Is there an educational version of this, or because things are subsidised already, we are not eligable? I dont think I habve seen anything that would give me Office 2010 for £8! as I would grab it in an instant.

Thanks! I am the IT department We have Volume licensing, but for some reason the Head of ICT (teacher) has been responsible for licencsing in the past. I will get all the details and find out from him.

We dont have 2010 yet though, our volume is for 2007. I take it we would need a 2010 volume/site licence before I could get the deal?

anyone know how this works please ?

we have the Microsoft HUP deal at work - and I took it up for 8.99 for Office 2007 - unfortunately I'm reinstalling Windows and have lost the original download (have serial but not download, and can't redownload after 30 days)

I've refound my original HUP link that I was sent and if I click on it now - it offers up 2010 for 8.99 - any reason I can't take this up ? if it was against rules presumably it wouldn't offer it up ?

If you can buy it, I would go ahead. AFAIK there is no limit as to how many times you can purchase it.

I got it on HUP through my work for £8.95 DL only with code, no disk (that was an extra £10). If you ring MS they will provide a new DL link for you (if you provide code).

Another option for those not able to get it on HUP, is via the educational licensing (conditions apply)
Currently the 2010 Office Pro suite is £39 INC, this can be found here:

I am looking to buy a new laptop which will be required to construct a long word document with multiple sections/sub-documents.

I am interested in the compatibility when transferring documents between Word 2007 and Word 2010? My current work is in Word 2007 and work computers have only recently been upgraded. I had issues transferring between Word 2003 .doc files and converting them to .docx files (and vice versa). How does Word 2010 save files and are there any major compatibility issues that people have encountered?

The sorts of issues I am talking about are formatting errors, referencing software problems (i.e. Endnote) etc. If I was to send a draft 2010 document to my boss who edits in 2007, are there likely to be snags along the way?

when you save in word 2010 you get the option of saving in docx or doc. there appears to be no distinction between 2007 or 2010 so it looks like they're compatible

There are probably good reasons but I cannot think of any straight off.

For sure it's not the Ribbon IMO. After two years of '07 I still prefer the old menu. Most of the time.
