I leave my phone in the car while at work. Sometimes after work it won't atart up. After 10/15 mins of driving it starts. With hindsights it happened on some really cold days recently.

Don't do it my friend!
I haven't read through all of this thread, and maybe i'll get a blasting for saying this, but I'm almost past caring what people have to say in praise of this phone.
I've had mine since July 09 and it has been an utter nightmare. Freezing, shutting down/restarting (when it wants to), telling me the memory is too low to open apps or even look up contacts (even when no apps are running)... I could go on but the thought alone drains me!
Last week I sent my phone off to be repaired. 3 Mobile insisted on repairing it but to no avail. The phone was dead and I already knew it. They sent me a new replacement...but 'forgot' to send me a battery with it. So i'm currently waiting for a battery to be sent to me which I don't think will arrive until Monday now.
Every person that I know that owns one of these phones have exactly the same complaints.
Save yourself the hassle mate and get the iPhone.

I used to hold Nokia in very high esteem until my ownership of the N95 and N97. I don't think i'll ever own another Nokia phone again after this.

If you do decide to get the N97, I sincerely wish you all the best.

Oh, I forgot to add that I done all the yadda about latest fw, even formatting the memory card and E -drive, clearing the cache etc. It didn't make the slightest difference.

Vbrown, your problems are most likely down to the 3 firmware which you have on your phone. If you ask people who have unbranded handsets about problems, they will more than likely have a lot less than you have. What version of the phone software are you on at the momment?

Yep give it a go, the reception on mine has seen a massive improvement and i don't recall any crashes or freezing post de-branding. I can also now force it to keep 2g signal when in a poor 3 3g area.

Even virgin native unbranded n97's still have problems, mine used to regularly freeze or crash for no reason, shame really as it could have been a good phone if Nokia hadn't penny pinched on so much of the hardware. All I can say is the losing of mine was a god send in the end, my new Nexus One is a mile away from the N97 even tho it lacks some of the features of the n97 I miss (FM Transmitter being the main one) but just having a phone that manages to make calls without a big song and dance or freezing or dropping at times is refreshing not to mention that in 2 weeks of ownership it hasn't crashed once!

just had a new firmware 2.1 today.
so far UI seems possibly a bit smoother overall.

combined with the great FREE Navigation now AND free push email I am quite happy so far.
But will change to a more slicker handset when they get released: nx10, nexus one, htc bravo etc..

Edit: The UI is possibly faster as well. Certainly feels like it. Had a declutter as well with formatting everything in sight after a back up.

Based on my experiences with 3xN97s I would say get an N97 if you want a phone that doesn't work half the time and the rest it works but doesn't do what you tell it to, get an Iphone if you want a phone that works 99.9% of the time

I upgraded my N97 last night to v2.0 (I'm on 3, so whatever the latest version is) and since I did it I've noticed that none of the apps that use an internet connection (iPlayer, MSN etc) will use 3G, only WiFi and Ovi Maps will not connect to anything at all. I get a message telling me that "internet connection disabled"

The browser works vice versa, no option to select what connection I use (like it was before)

Anyone out ther able to help me?

I am seriously not happy with my N97. I upgraded to V2.0 and since I have my Mass Memory, for no reason and without warning, stops working. It shows that the "memory is in use". I have to turn the phone off and back on for it to come back up. This is so bad that I now dont save anything to the 32gb memory, so whats the point of having it! And to top it all off the lock button on the side popped off last night! Just fell off! I have had the phone for 5 months and I haven't even used it excessively. Really not happy and I wouldn't reccommend the N97 to anyone because of the problems I have had and the ones I have read on the net. Nokia should be really worried about the i-phone because its so much better.

I had this you have to do a hard reset after the upgrad and now mine works great on both 3 internet and WIFI.

You should also back your phone up before.

I`ve managed to add an RSS feed to my content list on the home screen 9the one that`s accessed by holding finger on screen and clicking "add content". No idea how it happened, and thus, no idea how to remove it from the list. Anyone know how?

Just tested it on my phone and you should be able to keep your finger on the feed until the blue circle comes up and it should say remove.

That works to remove it from the home screen, but it`s still there on the list of widgets when you hold your finger on the screen and click "add content"

I think that it will always be there unless you delete the RSS feed from you feed list in the brower. Might be wrong though.

A friend of mine has the N97, and its been locking up every now and then. She is not very computer literate, so has asked me to help. I am going to do a software/FW update via the PC and the updater software, and it seems advised to backup the phone's content first. Can anybody confirm if this will also backup the text history that remains on the phone too? Also, can these 'backups' be read/looked at on the computer? Her kids have access to the same machine and methinks she may have been naughty on an occassion or two, as she is concerned if these files can be read off the PC.

Thanks!

Does anyone know how to reset the WEP key on these damned things.

I changed my wireless routers WEP key and instead of asking me to input a new one it just comes up WEP Key Wrong.

Its becoming more and more fraustrating

My phone now wont allow top and bottom line of the keyboard to work . . randomaly, no drops or things like that . . .

Sometimes the phone stalls if I ask it to do too many things at once . . well anymore than 1 thing . . .

IPhone will be in order when contract becoms viable!!

Having defended the N97 on this thread (and others) I`m now well and truly sick of mine "Upgraded" to latest firmware (vodafone official) and now crashes randomly, usually when ringing and trying to answer the call, touch screen has a mind of its own and worst of all, snooze button doesn`t work reliably on the alarm. Having spent the last few years avoiding the iPhone, Mr Jobs now has another convert (well, he will have once my contract`s up and the iPhone 4 is released)
