Mail for Exchange question

Can anybody tell me how M4E handles Exchange mailboxes with sub folders, that has rules to move email into different folders?

I know it doesn't allow you to browse or manage sub folders of the Inbox, but does it still display every email regardless of folder? Or only those left in the Inbox?

So if I get 10 emails and 5 go into sub folders, leaving 5 in the Inbox, does it show all 10 or just the 5 left?

Depends if it's a client or server side rule moving the mails into different folders.

If it's a client rule then MfE will show you all 10 messages.

Re: Mail for Exchange question

It's a server side rule. So it will only show the 5 then?

Now i've not actually tested this with MfE so can't say 100% but on an older Win Mobile using Activesync... server side rules were processed before Activesync pushed the mail out.

As MfE now uses Activesync at the backend I can't see it being any different.

If you want me to test before comminting to a MfE based Nokia let me know and i can test

Re: Mail for Exchange question

If you could test that would be great. I'm eyeing up a Nokia E71/E72 or E52 as a replacement for a Sony X1. I'd really appreciate it if you could test this

I know AS handles this fine, but it does so by allowing you to browse the subfolders individually. So you're viewing them in the same way you would in Outlook or OWA.

But as I understand it, MfE doesn't do subfolders of the Inbox so you see what's in the Inbox and nothing outside of that (bar Sent, Deleted etc).

Re: Mail for Exchange question

OK just sent 4 test emails from my Pop3 account to my Exchange mailbox. 2 messages with a subject that would see them moved to a subfolder within the inbox and 2 without.

The 2 with the subject that met the rule were moved to the subfolder and were never received by MfE on my E71.

Hope that helps.

Re: Mail for Exchange question

That's a massive help, thanks very much for taking the time to test that for me. It's not the answer I was hoping for, although the one I expected really.

Saved an expensive mistake though, so thanks again!
