I regularly use my N97, on the O2 network, as a modem on my laptop.

I used to get a connection in the region of 450 kbps, which I could live with, but for days it's not got any faster than 115 kbps.

Can anyone enlighten me about any particular settings I need on either the phone and/ or laptop? I hear about fabled 3G/ HSPDA speeds of 1.3 - 7 MBs!

Even when just browsing on the handset it's not great. The phone was sim free/ unbranded and has the appropriate settings direct from O2, eg I'm using the O2 mobile web access point. Set on dual mode, although have tried just using UMTS (assuming this is 3G as opposed to GSM??).

Any pointers??

I'm on o2 aswell with my n97. o2 has the slowest and possibly worst of 3g coverage. I think T-mobile have the fastest speeds. As for why your speeds have slowed down i'm not sure, have you been using teh phone in the same area?

Yeah, using it in same area. In the same room even!

The signal indicator shows full strength 3.5G signal, so no idea what's up. Had a similar story with my two previous handsets too, an N95 and an E90.
